Guys,

For the more knowledgeable ones, I'm looking to upgrade my TV to one of the latest models, i like the idea of a smart TV with all the latest stuff including a great sound system on it rather than have a sound bar attached.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've been looking at a Samsung 55", budget between £550-£700.

I prefer Sony and Panasonic to Samsung/LG etc but each to their own. Like someone else said, avoid a smart TV and get an OLED or 4K and get an external device for your smart stuff.

You won't get a TV with decent sound. You'll need a soundbar or some sort of speakers. I've got a Bose soundbar which was around £300 and it's superb sound wise.

Great, I'm now on the learning curve, I was thinking of a 4k TV, do you still think I'd need a sound bar or are the internal speakers good enough?

I’ve got a decent Marantz system which I hardly use so I might hook it up to our tv. Then again the thought of the Mrs watching bloody Coronation Street booming out then perhaps not.

I have a 55inch JVC 4K android tv had it a few years and probably the best decision I’ve made with regards to the android bit. Everything that you will ever need built into the tv. 1 remote does all. All the normal streaming services are built into the tv so that leaves your android part free to put whatever tickles your pickle on 😁

I bought a Marantz amp off eBay for £60 & connected a couple of Qi acoustic bookcase speakers(cost about £100 from Richer Sounds)to it. I connected the amp to my LG non smart TV via HDMI arc & the sound is fantastic; plus due to being connected via HDMI arc the TV remote turns on & off amp & controls amp volume controls.
Just realised I meant to reply to Sooty's Marantz post 🤦‍♂️

Whatever TV you decide to buy will serve you well. It's internal speakers will be rubbish. A soundbar will be slightly less than rubbish. What you need is a dedicated av amp and at least six external speakers. This will require lots of wiring and I can guarantee that your wife will hate you for this however much she appreciates the better sound. I speak as a man of experience.

We have an LG 55" incher, a few years old now and not that expensive 👍 but we also have an LG Dolby Pro sound bar with wireless surround speakers which is the dogs dangling ones 👍

Got an lg smart 8100 or somthing 50 in 400 quid ish sounded good to me but kids got me a bose tv sound bar for Christmas and we'll it now sounds incredible it turns on and off with tv and the TV remote or sky remote turns it up or down.

Ps got me old man the same tv then got its bigger brother for me bar.... Not very techy I but not sure how I got through life without a smart TV. 😁

Smart TV's are only doing what PC's have been capable of doing for 30yrs or more, the only improvement is the content available and improved screen technology!!

I see what your saying but he wants 500 quid ish tv not a 500 htz 55in monitor connected to a 1000 pound computer with a mega 8k graphics card and a marrantz ampy thing obviously I don't really know what I'm talking about put me point still stands. That said I suggested a sound bar when he said he didn't want a sound bar. 😕😀

I bought a Samsung 55 inch tv for 500 quid and ended up buying a Firestick Max as the tv smart functions are laggy. Nothing can compete to responsiveness of a Firestick, Google Tv or Apple TV.

I have Sony, Panasonic, LG and Samsung TV's around the house. The last 2 are the cheapest and decent enough. The first 2 are the best quality and a bit more expensive. My preferred TV on the lounge is the Sony 55" 4K Smart TV with Dolby sound. Good quality and does everything I want and is in the budget youare looking at.
I have a couple of sound bars but don't use them in the lounge, because my wife prefers the sound without them. The in built speakers on the Sony and the others are perfectly adequate for our needs.
You can often get a much better deal on 'last year's model'
Hope that helps.
