Uber taxis what's the thoughts?

We have started using Ubers when we can, better accurate info on where the taxi is, cheaper fairs, better app and easier to pay. Got one to Poulton Station yesterday cost of under £5 👍.

We got to the station and had a Poulton Taxi driver shaking his head at us in disgust, I had to laugh out loud, a Poulton Taxi driver probably one that doesn't want to work the late shift, mind you Poulton taxis only seem to have 2 or if you're lucky 3 taxis running after 10:30pm shaking his head at us.

Poulton taxis can do one as far as I'm concerned, I would rather walk than use this company, who would charge me nearer £12 for the same journey and that's if they even bothered to turn up.

Used them plenty in city’s, had a couple of ropey journeys, 1 didn’t turn up and charged and 1 charged a tenner extra a few days later as the journey took longer than expected… proper pissed me off that one

Local cabbies wont be happy, they didnt like whitesides coming into Blackpool in the 90's. Should of stopped premier too, most companies shut or joined forces and let them get bigger. What would start a war is if the council offered any tom dick or harry a set of plates.

Use them when in the states great service. I’ve found Poulton taxis ok until around three months back.
got off the train at the station and called them, 5 minutes, thanks. 20 minutes later no cab so I called again, he will be 5 minutes.
He turned up but I was annoyed.Booked one a few weeks ago to take me to the station, 15 minutes late only just made my train.
Uber bring it on.

Genuine question…..Uber exists as a service in Blackpool?
Yes if you used Uber before(APP) then it easy to use in Blackpool.

There isn't many drivers on the road(as yet) so at busy times there can be quite a wait.
Prices can also go up and down with Uber but at least you know the price before you set off as if stuck in traffic your meter isn't running.

Bloomfield pub to Thornton normally £20 mate got charged £12
£9 journey recently £5 for me.

How anyone can make money charging half the normal price when you taking into consideration vehicle maintenance, wear and tear, depreciation etc. No wonder traditional taxi drivers shake their head. Uber drivers are effectively doing themselves out of a job in the long term by taking smaller short term gains.

The driver I had last Saturday night said he makes good money - what that is, who knows.

That’s not correct though.

When Uber move into an area they tend to subsidise the fairs so people get use to using them.

Then the fares go up over time - but still normally cheaper than Taxis.

To many taxi drivers have ripped passengers off over the years…..

- long routes
- not got change

Now they are getting it back and then some the world over.

Give me Uber, Grab, Bolt, Freenow, plus many others anytime over a traditional taxi👍

Of course it's correct. It's well documented drivers have gone bust and not been able to earn even the minimum wage. Some US states have had court cases to bring in laws to make sure they earn at least the minimum wage.

Used UBER whilst in Croatia last month and absolutely destroyed local taxi's on price, in fact on our way to airport to return we were approached by a taxi whilst waiting for our uber who quoted us a price over 10 euro's more than our uber price and claimed he was doing us a favour.

Am based in Manchester and it is getting harder and harder when you're on a night out to order a Uber.
Don't know if they have clamped down on licences or more people are getting out but we left the theatre the other night at 10.30 and the nearest Uber was available at 11.45!

The taxi system is now not fit for purpose and needs reforming. Private hires sit outside the system; we have something that was invented in the Victorian era still trying to be relevant

Had always been reluctant to use them due to some of the things I'd heard about their early days

but was in Leeds the other week for an event and the hotel had booked me a taxi to the Royal Armouries but it hadn;t turned up after 20 mins and when the hotel chased it up, the taxi firm said it would be another 25 mins (5 mins after the event was due to start). Decided to "risk" Uber so downloaded the app and ordered one, was there within a minute and got me to the event with 3 minutes to spare. Ordered an Uber back to the hotel afterwards and it was there within 3 mins despite a number of people leaving the event and ordering UBers

That for me is always the point. If you use Uber app the estimated time of arrival is pretty accurate and you can see where they really are on the map.

Local firms it is always that painful “he’s 5 minutes away love” which might be 5 mins but more likely anything upto 1 hour away. It’s that constant lie that makes me choose Uber every time.
Also the fair seems basically fair unlike when local cabs who seem to make it up to suit.

Used them extensively in Liverpool recently after being seriously let down by their taxi firms; who incidentally had an app which was crap.

I've no idea how long Uber have been in Liverpool, but they were significant cheaper than the taxi company.
