So you are happy funding a nation that’s way above us in space technology and one that’s fully supportive of Russia? Maybe the Indians could cut us a new deal with Putin?
I could think of a few better places the £2.3 billion could be spent at home on our own people.

The money was spent nearly 5 years ago, under Boris' watch.

As I said, it's investment that may lead to a payback. Or should we be fully self sufficient and neither import nor export?

As I have pointed out on the other India thread, the aid helps to provide technical and business expertise which can then be exploited in markets to which the UK has access. It's a shared benefit, whilst also maintaining Britain's soft power in the world. Perhaps you might want to consider redirecting £2.3bn of public money away from our insistence in further exploiting carbon fuel extraction. Or, before picking on international aid, you might want to condemn the £4.3bn wasted on Covid support fraud.

I just think the £2.3 billion would be far better spent at home on things like schools, the unemployed, housing, and community projects.
Even fixing all the potholes would be more beneficial then sending this money to India.

It could be, but surely it's better spent on giving it to the likes of Michelle Mone and other Tory benefactors?

Pretty much sure every commonwealth country there was back in the glory days sent men to fight in all wars not just WW2.

I don’t recall us paying £2.3 billion to every former commonwealth country though?

I’ll stand corrected though if you can prove it.
 
We shouldn’t ask the question, overseas aid is beyond our comprehension and nothing for the masses to concern themselves with.

The price of building and educating a nation I’m afraid.

I mean where would India be today had it not been for the empire just another backward country?

It’s a global player today with nuclear weapons an army 10 times the size of ours and an airforce 5 times the size of ours and to think we are still funding it today when 300,000 Britons are classed as homeless.

If you or indeed anyone else really thinks they need this funding then God help us.

I repeat. Why do you not get so worked up about the £4.3bn wasted on covid fraud? Or the cuts to local authority budgets? Or the cuts to Policing since 2010? Or the cuts to the Armed Forces? Or is it easier to blame a far away country for our ills?

Who says I don’t get worked up I’ve never said otherwise have I?
I’m a firm believer though charity starts at home first and foremost and to repeat myself this £2.3 billion should be spent at home on those that need it.
I’ve already mentioned potholes and local authorities, homeless and housing, schools who should get it and yes more police and armed force funding but sending money abroad is simply not the answer especially to a country more wealthier than us.

I understand your thinking (not sarcasm) but the work we do with developing nations reaps practical rewards for our country. It also reaps diplomatic dividends and, given our Imperial legacy in India, boy do we need some diplomatic dividends. There is always a price to pay for good international relations and that does not come cheap.

I’ve edited my reply since.
I’m all for international relations trust me but let’s not forget India are in bed with Russia they are behind Russia right now in the Ukrainian war same as South Africa are so for me they should both be isolated and sanctions raised like the United Nations have on Belarus.
They have both chosen a side and it’s not the side of NATO/United Nations so sending funding to India is nothing short of an insult imo.

India has long maintained good relations with Russia, even during the Cold War. They are neighbours after all. However that does not put them in bed with Putin.

Do you realise about 90% of UK I.T. (including critical infrastructure like your banking etc.) is developed, run and supported out of India?

So your gadgets are made in China and then they are run by India.

Britain is nothing on its own in this modern world. It would collapse into a sorry heap without the help of India.

You really think the British "built" their nation? I suppose we built the Irish nation as well?
