VAR outside the Prem?

I’m conflicted on this having watched most of the playoffs and thinking about the decisions that seem to have gone against us over the years (Blackburn away in the Prem anyone?) and I’d be interested in other views.

I have been relatively ok with the officiating for most of the playoffs which begs the question whether we are better off without it or is it that they have assigned the better refs etc for those higher ‘tariff’ matches? But if that is the case would VAR not level things up with the ‘weaker’ officials?

Thoughts?

Make no odds.

It's still an interpretation rather than anything more, so the intrinsic bias for/against is still there

I like goal line technology (which isn't 100% but close enough); and I'd leave it at that.

In principle VAR could work in all leagues... and I (more than most) want it to work. But, its badly implemented (if I'm putting it politely). And I get the feeling that's intentional on the authorities part. I don't think they want it to stick in the game for what ever monetary based reason they may have.

In an ideal world VAR would instantly replace refs. In practice (in its current form) it's a bit of a shambles to say the least

Yeah - I also like the principle because it is a relatively fast paced sport with some complex rules (offside) and the officials can’t see everything - if used across the professional game it would need to be properly resourced and that might link into your other point.

Using it in all three finals for Wembley play offs but no way should be used outside the PL who on earth pays for it?

Scotland PL introducing it next season but on a sliding percentage scale league winner most bottom team least which is a weird one can't see that being approved here but I expect the Championship to bring it in at some point that's a big bill to find and a cash cow for those employed with it.

Didn't someone say we'd have had an extra 8 points this season if VAR had been in place? Did seem a lot went against us.

We probably don’t have enough decent officials on the pitch already let alone another god knows how they would need to to do VAR for every game.
…..if they want to change anything make the lino put his flag up when a player is offside instead of waiting an age to do so….this rule has made cheating an even greater art.

There was a piece (think it was from a journalist in the telegraph) that corrected every "contentious" decision from every game during our season in the prem and corrected the league table accordingly. He had no team allegiance.

He found that we would have been one of the biggest gainers in terms of points had the decisions been correct. From memory it was 5* points we would have gained.

I've linked it on here before but I can't be bothered trawling the internet to find it again!

Edit: I was completely wrong with the source... I've found a copy of the article... I don't think this is where i read it originally

Turns out I can be bothered trawling the internet
