Visitors in the West

I just saw a minibus of Blackpool fans at Rivington services. Forest fan went up to them and said good game and they didn't understand ha. Think they said they were from Norway.

You never know, they could've been from Iceland and just didn't realise that Grétarsson doesn't play for us anymore.

Not the lads you were on about, but I saw a group of 5 blokes in Leeds coats and Blackpool scarves pre match.

really weird

Some entrepreneurial type must be selling mini tours - I wonder what else is on the rota? 😀

A group of 4-5 blokes I heard underneath the West at half time. God knows where they came from, but they appeared to be enjoying themselves. I think someone posted recently about groups travelling to games from the continent, looks like this was another.

I'm no linguistics expert, I'll guess at them being Dutch. Unless it was Chorley.
There was a large contingent at Bolton away the season we prevented them from making the play offs.
Came on the train , stopping of at Chorley pre match with a certain notorious element of our fan base, even seemed partial to exchanging a few right handers with Bolton boys after the match. Had a beer and chat with them in Gillespies Saturday night all Feyenoord fans.

Why do they call people from Holland Dutch?
As I remember...Dutch is a bit like the Deutsch of Deutschland and just means...people, or folk, in the same way that Chinese call themselves 'central country people'.
Netherlands is something about the Catholics talking about the lowlands in the same way we might group Scandinavia. So it used to include Belgium etc but just became synonymous with modern day Holland.
Holland has something to do with...farming or crops. Hol...heil...huel...don't remember the foot.

I think we have a decent enough connection with the Dutch considering the Tangerine started when Blackpool FC Director Albert Hargreaves refereed an international game between Holland and Belgium and recommended that the Dutch colours would suit Blackpool.
Well thanks a bunch Ste. You've just given away and answer to one of the quiz questions I was going to put up on the Board this coming week.

What is the difference between Holland and the Netherlands? The Netherlands consists of 12 provinces but many people use “Holland” when talking about the Netherlands.
  • The two provinces of Noord- and Zuid-Holland together are Holland.
  • The 12 provinces together are the Netherlands.
  • Holland is often used when all of the Netherlands is meant.

The official name of the country is the Kingdom of the Netherlands. King Willem-Alexander is the king of the nation. Holland actually only means the two provinces of Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland. However, the name Holland is often used when all of the Netherlands is meant.

Its the Netherlands people not Holland. Like calling England Lancashire. Which wouldnt be a bad thing 🤪
Was nice to see a family of Eastern Europeans walking out of the ground last week all decked out in tangerine.

Yeah see above 🤣

Saw a couple of Scots lads outside too, Hearts fans from Fife. Decided to come and watch the game and commented on how cheap the tickets were for a cup tie 😁 Hopefully they are going home as Seasiders.

What colour did we play in before tangerine?
The shirt colour for the three seasons starting 1923/24 was actually orange. The strip prior to that and post-WW1 was white shirts and dark blue shorts - like Preston. Prior to WW1 the club had gone with various combinations of red shirts and black/white shorts, having originally played in a light blue and white pin stripe shirt.

The Argentina style strip looks good.
Should be an option to our standard away kit of White shirts & tanger shorts.

I spoke with one of the lads in a Leeds coat after the game in the AC, he was with a group of Norwegians who were over to watch Cardiff v Leeds today. They were enjoying quite a few beers and Jager-bombs and said they loved the game. 👍🏼

A group of about 20 came in to the club shop about 1315 then in to the Bloomfield club about 20mins later. Some had Pool sscarves and we thought they sounded Polish more than anything.

They certainly picked the riggameamr to come and see and after that result can we find a way to get them back every week.😁

Have you got
