Was American punk better than British?

It didn’t used to be but it is now. Bands like Turnstile and Angel Du$t these days blow our bands out the water.

When you consider Malcom McLaren was in the USA (New York) in the mid 70's with The New York Dolls and was watching people like Richard Hell, Lydia Lunch, Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers, Television and The Ramones......and then came bake here and formed a boy band to copy what he had seen.......I'm going to say that............The Spirit of 53 is spot on......The Clash blow them all away......

It was different as far as I can see. British Punk was less about a drug induced scene as a kick on from the early 70's but was a working class (and arts school), raw energy and wild scene which appealed to much wider audiences. Sure there were bands such as The Dictators and Dead Boys from the US who perhaps were more British but the US scene was to NYD and Patti Smith orientated. The Heartbreakers could a=only get to be a warm act for the Pistols.
