We have precedence

Just remember where I was the last time we had a opening game of the season after winning yet another play off promotion season.

I was on a camping holiday in Cornwall, hiking along the coastal path. I set off armed with my faithful transistor radio, all ready for our first match in the Prem.
Not against one of the powerhouse megarich sides but Wigan Athletic were well established in the league. Just like today, I was praying for a nice boring 0 v 0 confidence boosting away point.
Headphones on, radio on, kick off arrived. Game not live on the beeb, but 16 minutes gone it was "Taylor- Fletcher has scored for newly promoted Blackpool"
Further along the path and just before half time Marlon really is a contender with a knock out one on 38 mins and another just before the haf time whistle.
Mein Gott!! it's 3 v 0.
Another goal after 75 mins from Alex the Baptiste and when all the other results came in it was job done, we're top of the league.

Living just a football rattle's throw from The Gate, and my son Bedminster born n' bred is called Jay but is a diehard Robins' fan. The last time he and saw a game together was the game at Bloomfield Rd that sealed our play off place. Double chagrin for Jay as St Ian Holloway was ex Bristol Rovers. Yes it is a family at war and may the best fan win. I think in this case a a tight 1 nil win for us may be better than a 4 nil thrashing, or the cider bottles may fly.

Come on you Pool.

It may be a good omen that your use of a picture of George Orwell may result in us have another Road to Wigan Pier day at Ashton Gate. Yes you caught me red handed, it was a radio cassette player, with ABBA at the ready in case things got rough at the pier.

Not sure which channel you were listening to but it was definitely live on Radio 5 - I was listening to it driving back from France. Jimmy Armfield was helping out with the commentary.
