We need to face it, who do we even bring in?

I agree that Appleton is not the man to bring us out of this rut, but if we were to pull the trigger who would we bring in?

I can't see any high flying managers from League 1 (Like McKenna or Schumacher) wanting to take the job as we are favorites for the drop and they may very well see us on the way down. We were able to poach a director of football from a fellow Championship club so maybe we could do the same to a club below us? Doubtful.

Maybe Richie Wellens, but would he really be much of an improvement?

Unemployed managers include Leam Richardson and Liam Manning, would either of those be an improvement? Maybe, but Richardson has already been sacked from a Championship club this year and Manning is notorious for needing lots of time to implement his ideas so probably wouldn't be the best bet.

Terminating Appleton's contract would cost a bit and with few capable (and available) options I think we need to accept that the board will just keep Appleton, back him in January, and trust that he will eventually come good.

It’s a difficult one to solve, AT.

Would a new manager get the fans back onside and would that be the difference needed to turn narrow defeats into draws and draws into wins?

Avoiding relegation is the most important thing now and under Appleton I can't see that happening. We should have sacked him before the world cup and gone for Rob Edwards. Now it is much more difficult. Do you try to go and find someone with a long term vision with the added risk or do you go with a Tony Pulis or Neil Warnock type until the end of the season to try and avoid relegation and then look to the future? Either way the status quo isn't working so a change is needed. Can't do much worse.

A new manager might provide a bounce, which is why I think we should get rid of MA, but for how long, and what if the results are no better than MA? Then we're back to square one.

My preferred outcome would be to get him gone and then poach Schumacher from Plymouth Argyle, but I can't see him leaving for us.

Think a lot depends on the players too, do they not believe in MA anymore? It looks like they don't, but if the board are hearing that the players do still back him then it would be hard to justify sacking him.

Is that 3 points from 23?

That's not hard to justify.

This.

Bring anyone in who has a bit of spirit and doesn't use excuses for sending the wrong team out.
100%

with Appleton in charge even if we scrape survival this year, he will blame the lack of progress on the players and want to gut the current squad and will take us down the following year. Im not convinced any of his coaching staff are any good either

Going a bit left field i'd give the role to Madine for the rest of the season, he's got some tactical nous, and he lifts players around him. couple that with a decent assistant it cannot be any worse

Not a chance in hell of 95% of them ever coming here.

Anyone with a modicum of positivity around them and a bit of experience managing a team at this level.

I saw no evidence tonight or in any other game that MA has lost the dressing room tbh.

Getting some of our injured players back will be like new signings. Just hope it won't be too late.

I know this will be met with kneejerk mockery but I think Duncan Ferguson could be a good shout. He's worked with and is respected by some of the best coaches in the world and is the anti-Appleton in terms of passion & communication. I think he fits our squad and our town perfectly.

Appleton said the same thing to the Gazette, kind of believe him too.

Think backing him this window is the option the board are going to take.

He also said we'd have 2/3 in next week.

Let's see.
I think you're right. I would like to think the board will do everything possible in Jan so as not to lose face, particularly after publicly remonstrating with the fans displeasure following his appointment. Let's hope so!
