As with a few other players, he needs to be played in his proper position to get the best out of him. The clips at the time of his signing showed him coming through midfield to lay off or score himself. We’ve got him playing too deep, where he’s not yet been as effective.

Hopefully Dembele will also be used in his best position too, but we’ll need a fit striker to take advantage. In fact to get the best out of most of the team this damn awful, boring, negative tippy tappy 352 needs ditching for good.

looks lost and has very little impact. Can only improve though.

Not so sure it’s *his* position that’s the problem but more the squad as a whole are a good 10-15 yards too deep.
The midfield need to do more to find space, get on the ball and make themselves available whilst the WB’s need to trust the players in the squad will make the positional switches to allow them to safely push up the pitch whilst remaining covered.
Confidence and a better understanding/trust between individuals should see a big improvement in all of the above and result in us playing with a defence closer to the centre circle as opposed to the goal line

Critch is probably scared of the space behind the wing backs. In fact he seems to be playing 532 in a rather fearful manner. Needs to grow some cojones.

Going back to the end of last year when we all hoped for a Yates, Bowler, Rogers with Poveda at 10 behind them - we're coming into that territory again with a completely new crew.

Maybe Rhodes with Dembele and Dale or CJ alongside, and Weir in behind to get us through the Joseph and Lavery recovery period, then options to go two central forwards with width from then on.

I remember the first season under Critch when we had a formidable press. The pressure we put on teams on the final third left us exposed a little at the back but won us so many clear chances on goal.

This is what I want to see return. In that approach you need a pacy centre back for the counter attack when the press fails - this is where Marvin excels.

We can then hold possession a bit more to get a breather and do the tappy crap - but press like mad when we lose it. Once again - that means we abandon the wing backs as we have to go man to man on their back 5/6 (GK, defence and DM)

Let’s see how good opposing teams are at playing football through our press. I doubt many can and most will just lump it forward under pressure.
