Well done Boris

The government's chief science officer is saying that the strategy is herd immunity, flattening the peak, and getting it over with before next winter, because the NHS can cope better in summer. And vulnerable people are less vulnerable.

Herd immunity means 90% + of the population need to contract the virus. 1% of that is about 600,000 deaths. 4% is about 2.4 million. Flattening the peak reduces the burden on health resources at any one time, reducing the mortality rate. So the government is hoping to be nearer to 600k than 2.4 million. I reckon.

Where is the evidence that Boris overruled a medical / science expert? Even for Boris, I would be very surprised if that was the case.
Pete, I saw the guy say it on the Beeb last week, I was expecting the Cobra meeting afterwards to confirm it and they didn't. It was black and white, not second hand.
