What’s gone wrong….?

Been on the slide since the nobbers game. And to be fair, Appleton was doing okay. Something isn’t right at the club and I fear our fate is sealed - we need a bloody magician to get out of this, not a Manager that’s been out of the game for 12 months.
I like Mick, he’s a great bloke - but is this the right appointment?

Appleton needed to go obviously with this recent record although let's not pretend he wasn't fcuked over in the summer with poor recruitment. Ironically in January we brought in the players he needed and then sacked him a week later to get MM in who plays a totally different way. Bizarre
Exactly

It’s not gone right from the first kick of the ball this season.

Shocking summer transfer dealings, letting our best player Bowler go on deadline day.

Never got that goal scoring midfielder or striker in.

Instead we got waste of a space signings like Bridcutt in.

Roll on January transfer dealing same old problems as the summer no one in who knows where the net is.

This club has been carrying players who are just sick notes for 12 months.

Appleton a disastrous appointment on a 4 year deal.

McCarthy a disastrous appointment knows how to not get beat but doesn’t know how to win a game.

The board are to blame as much as anyone bringing in Appleton then sticking with him for far too long.

This team/squad is simply nowhere near the standard it should be for championship football.

A complete clear out is needed prior to life in league one players, manager, board.

It's critcleys fault no its Appletons ! no it's MMs fault, no it's Sadlers fault, no it's the boards fault. It's definitely not the teams fault they have been playing magnificently all season.

Blame lies firmly at the boards door....bad decision after bad decision for 12+ months.
Since losing Critchley unexpectedly it would have been pretty easy to find a similar replacement, coach with experienced number 2, keep the buzz going. What they went for was a choice no one wanted and it's so obvious, everyone knows you don't go against fan will. It always ends in failure. Choose a deeply unpopular manager and raise prices. 🤔

But even then, a poor backing in summer with multiple missed targets.

Are we the unluckiest club in the world with injuries or is there something more to it? We can't be that unlucky every time. We have some players who never seem to get injured, but others are a joke.

The whole Blackpool way thing is bollocks. If we were going to implement a style then ok stick with it and build to it, get better at it.

We have shifted from one thing to the next.

Appleton was not working, they didn't get rid when they had the chance. Then it rumbled on, eventually getting rid. But not before bringing in players to suit his style.

Now we went for a manager who's known to get teams out of it. But with big lumps, we don't play that way and aren't good at it.

It's been a shitshow really.

We've been like a shopping trolley smashing from one side of the aisle to another aimlessly.

However despite all that we're not down yet, infact a point closer to safety. We have to improve fast but I'm not seeing signs Micks football suits what we have, which was pretty obvious too.

Not really interested any more in who did/didn’t do what/when. In the here & now & looking at the table & forthcoming fixtures, the reality is we’re looking L1 in the face, with little chance of change. Too little, too late.

Hopefully there’s some sort of planning taking place within the club, because now is the time that plans for 23/24 need to be agreed.

I'm not going to blame; Critchley, Appleton or Mccarthy. Critchley left us that happens all the time in football. However, his replacement was one of the worst decisions ever. Appleton was totally out of his depth, and should never have been given the job. This was compounded by prolonging the inevitable and he should have been replaced in the world cup break. Both transfer windows have been poor and bringing in Mccarthy now is probably too late, as he hasn't the personnel to suit his style of play.
In summary like others have said the board have made a few poor decisions that unfortunately will lead to us getting relegated.

That’s pretty much my thought process. Just nice to hear other’s opinions.

What's gone wrong?

I'll tell ta, a league 1 club masquerading as a championship club.
We have no players on the books apart from Jerry and possibly a couple of loan players who would get into other championship teams.
We've been the b&m bargains of the championship for 2 seasons and we've regularly been served dross.
Hard graft and effort does NOT win games. New training grounds and East stands do not win games. Having great home grown players by 2026 does not win games. Having a great community trust does not win games.
You win games with players that have a modicum of ability who can pick a pass, get a shot off and can track their opposition player.
It's got to the point where its just not enjoyable going to the match anymore.
In my 50 + years of supporting this team I'm hard pushed to find another season where its been as bad as this.
At least in the crap seasons of the past we won a few games!!

Good and hopefully you won’t be posting anymore negative shite on here!
Sorry I’ll post positive stuff instead.

We are brilliant! We didn’t get outplayed by Rotherham! Our long ball game was very effective! The atmosphere wasn’t like a library, it was deafening! The fans weren’t booing the players, they were booing the ref! The manager was right not to bring Poveda on as we are building some strong foundations and don’t want to concede at home to Rotherham!

Better?

Much better but that’s bollocks too. The point l was making was related to your position of not wasting anymore of your money and not to going which is your choice, but have you never supported BFC that’s been in a relegation battle before and subsequently relegated?

Yeah but not at rip off match day ticket prices and not whilst watching quality players on the bench just sitting there with us not going for the win.

Now l agree with that but it’s not a reason to throw the towel in ATG but again that’s your choice of course. I assume that you are a not a ST holder and buy match day tickets of your choice, but the club has made some fundamental and serious mistakes one of which is the pricing of match day tickets. The way l look at is that we are a squad of L1 players trying to compete in the Championship and unfortunately the table never lies. Today’s performance was with endeavour but totally lacking any quality and it’s never over till The Fat Lady Sings but she’ll be warming up at the end of the month if we don’t start winning and soon. Won’t stop me going supporting BFC as it’s what I’ve done all my life and that’s my choice.

Always had a season ticket but decided to do match day prices after Appleton was appointed. Now it’s obviously too easy not to go. Having said went to the last two home games as did other people I know. We are going to lose these fans playing like that. In reality, we’ve probably lost them already after today.

Yes people will harp on and make childish remarks about not being true fans but these are people we need to retain otherwise we are heading back to 7k gates and a laughing stock.

To be fair to MM, he hss’t mosned about injuries. We’re 11 days into Feb, and our three most recent signings ( Goode, Nelson and Trybull ) are ALL injured. None of the long term boys ( Stewart, Bridcutt and Anderson) are back yet. Even Pep would struggle with that. All Pool can do is fight, and try to stay in touch until at least some of the cavalry return.

You know I don't know what the Blackpool Way actually ever meant but I know what it means to me. Going out to win every game and attacking the opposition team whoever they are and to just keep going for the throat. Now maybe that's not what everyone else thinks and maybe I'm only really thinking of the Holloway years but what I do know is what we have now is the polar opposite of what I think the Blackpool Way is. This long ball percentage football is truly awful and I despise seeing us do it whilst leaving our most skillful exciting players sat warming the bench. So so so disappointed in what we are doing.

You don't understand, you must be a cheerleader at all times regardless of the negative slop being served up on the pitch.

Totally agree 👍

I’ve always said it’s down to peoples own personal choice whether to go and support the club or not but we will undoubtedly lose a lot of supporters should we get relegated at the end of the season and it could take several years to get back into the Championship as history has shown. As I’ve said on a number of threads recently the club needs to invest to compete at this level but since last summer some of the decisions taken have been amateurish at best!

Critchley IMO was the glue holding it together. He identified the best U23 loans. Since he left, it’s been a disaster. He wasn’t the greatest manager but knew a good player or 2.

And still a shovel hasn’t gone in the ground on garstang road and the east stand will be put on the back burner, I said at the start of the season both or either of those projects could absolutely not come at the expense of championship football, and that’s if they even get built at all now.
