What a bizarre appointment in the first place

I know this has probably been said before. But genuinely what an odd appointment this was in the first place. We'd seen how an 'experienced' figure had worked out in Grayson, made a great progressive appointment with Critchley and then went completely back to square one with the appointment of Appleton? And with Grayson, I could kind of understand it because he'd been successful at League One level before and 'knew the league'. Appleton had never been successful at Championship level, in fact the only successes he ever had were at League 2 level with Oxford and then one decent season at Lincoln where loan players carried him to a play off final where he was outmanaged by Critchley. Further still, it was clear 90% of us didn't want him, yet the board completely ignored that and hired him. Further STILL, he was given a 4 year deal. When you think about it, it's absolutely bizarre.

Totally agree with all that, spot on.

The appointment showed a very worrying lack of judgement, and it was almost like they couldn't be bothered looking properly.

Nail hit firmly on the head.
Edit to add just admit the fuck up and get rid please.

I still think they wanted Rosenior but he knocked us back at the last minute and Appleton, as a mate of Mansford stepped in, the reward being a 4 1/2 year contract.
I also think he wants out now but with a nice little pay off which the club are reluctant to pay. Hence we have a stalemate.

I’d love to know who they actually boarded for the job … I remember my heart sinking when Appleton suddenly became favourite.
