What is a bit depressing

Is that we have only taken 2 points from Charlton this season - a truly awful side!
They have some decent players but clearly have issues.

2 nil up on about 80 mins and still couldn't win, one of the most disappointing results of the season.

Yesterday an absolute hat full of chances and anywhere from unlucky to poor to downright awful finishing meant we didn't get the win we badly needed and really built momentum and confidence.

Instead, 1 flukey goal against and we didn't show anywhere near the mentality of a side who are confident in being promoted, by coming back from the setback.

Am still annoyed about it and the 'we would have won that game 99 times out of 100' type comment doesn't help, as we needed the win to catch others.

We have to win whilst the chances are there as 1 bad run and we could be out of it again.

We have to start punishing sides more and scoring more goals from those sort of chances. Then it doesn't matter if you have an unlucky moment.

'We have to start punishing sides more and scoring more goals from those sort of chances. Then it doesn't matter if you have an unlucky moment.' These few words capture perfectly the reason for our current ongoing malaise.

Because, sorry, under Critch it just ain't happenin'. The mentality of the team, especially in games against more confident, determined sides, is all wrong. No matter the opponents, you get the distinct impression we're constantly playing on the 'back foot', allowing opposing teams to grasp the initiative and thereby seize the upper-hand with almost monotonous regularity.

As things stand at present, we look like nothing more than cannon-fodder; we've been justly rewarded for our limited exertions with our current standing in the league; reflecting our deserved status as mid-table mediocrity.

Face it, this season we're going nowhere. Compare our current standing with that in evidence at the home of near-neighbours, high-flying Bolton Wanderers. You just get a real sense of them being on the crest of a wave; of the team being truly bouyed-up by the huge strides they've made since the start of this campaign, as though they are on a continuing quest to achieve all that they possibly can this season.

We, on the other hand, have shown nothing like the same degree of ambition. We've quietly plodded along, managing a great result one week, followed by what can only best be described as a 'bit of a shocker' the next.

At the risk of sounding like a bit of a cracked record, for me, it all comes back to that age-old Blackpool failing: the ongoing inability to achieve any level of consistency. For, without that missing ingredient, I fear we may well be in for what could turn out to be a rather protracted stay in Division One.

I just hope against hope I'm proved wrong ...

We gained a point on two teams above us. Barnsley and Oxford.

True, but the last few games have been much better in many ways, just a lack of putting the ball in the net from pretty good chances last game and also the lack of looking like coming back from a setback, a flukey goal for Charlton.

It can improve and has been doing so gradually, but we do need to do it fast, we need that never say die mentality, that belief to come from behind or to retake the lead more often.

I think it will come, as it does take time to change that mentality from last season, but will it be quick enough for this season? The next few games will probably tell us.

Suppose the question is which was worse - losing a 2 goal lead at their place or a 1 goal lead at BR!
