What people forget about 95/96

Even now, that's probably the most dominant side for their respective league that I can remember during my time watching us. Never looked likely to not be automatically promoted for 90% of the season. I never warmed to SA during his time with us and never have since. That defensive mentality killed us. Although let's be honest, the way we collapsed in the final run in and the second leg will always have people suspicious.

Great remember for the Tony Ellis equaliser at Stockport. Absolutely mental in the away end.

I was absolutely gutted to see Allardyce leave. It was an absolutely appalling decision. Utterly ridiculous !

We’d have walked promotion the following season with him at the helm.

Far too much interference in the background at that time.

Nope it was a guy from Carlisle On deadline day.
His name will come to me at 3 am in bed!
Goater was beforehand.

Edit. It was David Reeves. Thank god for google!
He signed for Nobbers for next season and bagged 33 goals!
Recall we were also reportedly in for Marcus Stewart who was then at Bristol Rovers and Kevin Russell at Wrexham

I was there that afternoon at the old Manor Ground. Pool played all afternoon on the break. Not long before JB’s winner, Pool had the ball in the Oxford net from a corner. Morrison powered a header into the net, but Tony Ellis ( the prick) decided to make sure their keeper had no chance by baulking him. The Ref saw it, and chalked it off.

I remember after the Bradford playoff defeat people round the back of the South stand banging on the wall trying to get in shouting "we want big sam out", the feeling was understandably very strong at that moment, but obviously a rash decision in retrospect.

Looking back I think that was the end of our short uptick in fortune anyway, plenty were of the opinion that Oyston only started spending money as they knew they had a high profile court case coming and needed all the positive publicity they could get.

I have a vivid memory of Oyston standing on the pitch around that time with a microphone promising promotion and the pie in the sky stadium with the floating pitch and floating roof and floating pie kiosks.

Anyway, least it gave us some all time favorites to remember like Ellis, Andy Morrison, Micky Mellon etc
