Where did it go wrong during the season?

We seemed to be doing ok, holding our own and suddenly took a nosedive. My thoughts are the red cards from the Sheffield United away game, even though we beat Watford the week after I feel that the suspensions really unsettled the team selections and we haven't recovered from it.

In addition to atrocious recruiting, leaving gaps in key positions etc, too many hamstring injuries, & poor discipline, 2 bad managers, which have all been done to death on here.
We've got no strength in depth & only 1 or 2 of our players would attract interest from a stable Championship team.
In most games, our players have tried their best, but they're simply not good enough to compete against most of the opposition teams.

Yes I would agree with that. It was a winnable match as well. Red cards cost us dearly during the season.

The World Cup break. If that hadn’t happened we would have kept losing and Appleton would surely have been potted well before 2023, and a new manager would have had longer to turn the ship around a bit. It was salvageable at that point but instead it gave us the ability to embrace false hope that a bit of a reset under Appleton was all that was needed.

It basically went wrong when we didn't sack Appleton after the Wigan game. It was obvious to all of us that he had lost the team as well as the fans. But this has been analysed over and over so no use crying over spilt milk. We've just got to get on with it. UTMP.

The Red cards, injuries and then, which I think a lot forget, the sickness in the camp following the Coventry game that decimated us just as we were on a roll. The awful recruitment and the downbeat attitude towards the manager when we needed to be behind him. We got what we deserved, Mick ** McCarthy, Jesus!!

9 red cards in 8 games I would say cost us minimum of 6 points - if we were level with Reading, QPR, Cardiff etc I would fancy us.

Obviously, we've had two useless managers that just refuse to put our best players on the pitch in their best positions! 🙄

However, also think we've genuinely had a lot of bad luck with referees decisions going against "little old Blackpool"!

Some of the red cards we've had earlier, just would not have been given against a supposed big club!
We got absolutely cheated away at Sheffield United, losing two big points with the last kick of the ball after playing about 10 minutes extra time with nine men.
If we'd held that win, we'd have gained massive confidence to go on a winning run.
Wigan away, again debatable if big Marv should have seen Red so early. That was a bad game to lose.

Loads of injuries have not helped, with having all the suspensions as well.

If we somehow manage to stay up with a big result on the final day of the season, then I'd say our troubles would be behind us, as we'll surely have much better luck next season.

Not having the bottle to sack MA early enough. Most big sides would've potted him well before.
Mick M has a hospital pass to deal with. I think he was the right man for the job at the time the decision was made.
Will be great if we escape, The Burnley draw is a confidence builder.

WBA away? We were mid table, seemingly playing well, West Brom were on a very poor run, we hadn't won there for about 60 years., but I fully expected us to do just that, and break the hoodoo...we didn't though...we played awful(apparently) and it just went downhill from there! 😏
Call me wise after the event, but I was incredibly underwhelmed by Michael Appleton's appointment too, but I must confess I thought I'd got it wrong...until the WBA game! Oh well... 🤷‍♂️
