Where does Beesley fit in?

In fairness when he's played this season he's knocked a few goals in but I've never been overly impressed with him - for us and him would January be a good time for a League Two loan move?

I think he's a long way from the first-team at the moment.

Unless we have significant injury problems, we have three forwards in Rhodes, Lavery, Kouassi who are ahead of him in the squad (and possibly a fourth as we wait to see if Kyle Joseph lives up to the hype). I can't see Beesley making the match-day squad for League fixtures.

He did well last night, but the opposition were weak. I'm not saying he's a terrible player or anything, he's a pro and clearly works pretty hard. I think he could find a good career for himself lower down.

I joked that he was like Graeme Hick - I think against lower opposition he’s a really nice target man. Mobile, brave, hard working and scores goals.

When he comes up against higher quality defenders he’s just lacking. He seems a good professional and if I was a promotion seeking L2 club I’d be trying to get him in, in Jan.
he’s just not Championship quality and therefore not enough for the top 6 L1 team we need to be this year.

He will have a nice career but I think this opportunity is too much for him.

I wouldn’t be in a rush to ship him out . Lavery seems to have a reoccurring hamstring problem and Joseph has been injured since he signed , only now injury free but not match fit . Kouassi is definitely work in progress which leaves us Rhodes as the only reliable performer up top.

Reminds me a bit of Ryan Hardie, it's just not quite happening for him in the first team yet but I think he has the potential and will probably do well with regular games elsewhere.

Lavery is out for a few weeks and Kouassi is still learning and not scoring in league games. Joseph is making tentative steps.

He doesn’t. He’s had his chance at the start of the season in a number of league games and not done anything.

Need to sell him in January and bring in better quality (think we need a striker with pace) so it’s good he’s scored last night as it makes other teams think he might be good for them and sign him.

Difficult one this, he hasn't had a great deal of game time so far this season but both his goals last night were belters.
Lavery is obviously going to be missing for a while again, Joseph has managed about 30 minutes of first team football this season, Kouassi is a work in progress but will probably start in front of Beesley at the moment.
We could lose Rhodes in January, so talk of shipping him out unless we plan to bring in better is maybe premature.
It would be interesting to see how he'd play alongside Rhodes but at who do you leave out to allow that?

Beesley is good enough off the bench and is a decent finisher. Won most of the aerial challenges.
Runs channels well and will create opportunities for others
Reminds me of Scott Vernon, who was far from the complete striker, but a good finisher.
Agree he would not get game time in the Championship if we got there, and at that point sell him.

I think Beesley’s general play has improved this season. However, after scoring two against a strong Derby in the EFL cup in August he has failed to find the back of the net in the league. Last night will have been a confidence boost, but he needs to start knocking them in, the main objective/purpose of any striker. Worth giving another opportunity.

I agree. He is a traditional type centre forward of the type Kouassi, Joseph and Lavery are not. We do seem to be too reliant on Rhodes and I'm struggling to see where the goals are going to come from when he goes back to Huddersfield. We might need Beesley then.

We need to keep our options open as we get close to the January window, in an ideal scenario Rhodes will stay, Kouassi will get better, Joseph will have nailed down a 1st team place and Lavery will be back to full fitness. If that's the case he should be sold in January or at least sent out on loan. No way if this is the case will he get a chance. However what's the chance of having all the 4 mentioned being fully fit and available or we can find a better option in our price range in the January window? he may still have a role to play for us this season. Then there is the NC factor can we play to our strengths (attacking football!), or stay with a system that is safer on paper.

Strange really, everyone raves about Kouassi after his 3 goals against Liverpool U 21's . Beesley scores a couple of crackers in the same competition, but against a league side with 8 first team regulars and he's a flat track bully.
Kouassi did well, but it was also Liverpools younger.... youngsters, as many of the older ones were on international duty.

Beesley showed some good finishing.

I wouldn't completely write him off yet, as when he played, as a team, we were not firing on all cylinders at all early season. We still aren't but it's better than it was.

Beesley and Kouassi have one league goal between them in a total of 17 league appearances this season. Neither of them are quite there in terms of troubling L1 defences. Your strikers need to be finding the net.

Kouassi played 45 minutes in that match and got a hat trick, as mentioned v Liverpool youngsters. Beesley played the whole 90 minutes and failed to score.
Different attributes, Kouassi better physical strength, harder to knock off and better close ball control, only just turned 20, still learning. Beesley better in the air(though could do with coaching from Jordan on how to direct headers better) and faster. Again as mentioned, both need to start finding the back of the net in the league.

I think Beesley is behind at least 3 others but it's a squad game. As others have said, Lavery seems to be fragile and Joseph has been out twice. Also strikers are only as good as the service they get and at the start of the season when he was playing, we were so painfully slow, I don't remember him missing any chances, he just spent the game battling for 50/50's. Not a world beater from what I've seen but not to say he's no role to play.

Kouassi, Rhodes and Joseph are ahead of him. Add Lavery to that list once he's back. I think Beesley will get his chances is cup games and be there if we get an injury crisis. If Rhodes gets recalled in January then he might feature in some league games as well.

He doesn't fit in. He did well last night but whenever he comes up against better opposition he is found wanting. His level is League 2 and that's not a dig at the guy it's just where he is which will see him have a decent career.

The problem with Beesley is he's not a first team starter for me but I've never seen him make an impact when he's come off the bench and so am not really sure where that leaves him?

seems like a hard worker and good to have in the squad but I think he's a league 2 striker, he's 26 so coming into his prime years and if I was him I'd want to be playing every week.

Happy to have him as a squad player though in case of injuries and for cup games.

He could do with beefing up a bit. He wins headers but often it goes to no one. But he doesn’t get stuck in to challenge on the deck. Doesn’t bust a gut to go and win the ball. I think he’d benefit from a loan to a league 2 side. That said, we get too many injuries to our forwards and will we still have Rhodes after the next transfer window. If he sticks around he’ll get some game time off the bench. If he wants regular football he will probs have to move on.

Bradford on loan?

Not because I want that but because he'll clearly never play under Critchley. So he might as well go make a career elsewhere.

Watched him closely against Morecambe and said to the chap next to me ..." not sure how I would fare with the ball wellied somewhere close to me 8' high " ..but he still got under a few and won most. Then ... two great finishes in the box. Like Jordan R ... needs someone alongside him in my opinion. But still a great finisher if given the opportunity.

He's not been used well in our horribly clunky five three one and a bit system. He definitely needs to become more direct, but its hard without the ball or any decent service. That Rhodes does so well is a testament to his class and endurance, but even that is drying up a bit recently when he's left up there on his own.

I think he can do a job for us and if Kuassi gets injured we still have a forward with some height.

at the moment the striking options look really good, Rhodes, Beesley, Joseph and Kouassi, and shayne to come back, and the young lad Miles from the other night looks like a player as well.

That analysis went well🤭

If he played in a front two with Rhodes, Dembele behind threading in passes and Hamilton and Lyons playing on their natural sides putting good early crosses in, you might see a different player.
Not many centre forwards look good if they if they are feeding off scraps.
Gjr - a man that understands football.
