Who are we going to sign tomorrow?

Sterling early on in the day with one Premier League youngster that we've never heard of right before the window shuts.

We'll miss out on Dale and Brannagan IMO.
 
I think Dale will sign, Crewe have to sell as the player wants out and he’s out of contract at the end of this season. Can’t see Brannagan happening though unfortunately
 
Sterling firstly, then Dale, then someone we weren't expecting., either on loan or less likely on a permanent.
I prefer the way the club privately goes about its business. Personally I find it very professional.
I'm also hopeful we might off load a couple of squad players, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't think Simms would be considered until the January window, especially given his injury.

Edit didn't see the Gabriel deal coming. I thought that ship had sailed. That's the first signing we weren't expecting, hopefully more tomorrow.

That would be interesting, but seems unlikely. One possibility is Dougall. Not signed a new contract, and we seem to be after midfield players. Would we? If the price was right?

What do I expect today? To be honest, I'm not sure.

As I've maintained throughout the summer, the money is there if the price is right. As I've also maintained, the lack of movement since our initial flurry of business is little fault of the club - the market has been incredibly slow (and I've posted information to back this up). However, the market has definitely quickened over the weekend as clubs, agents and players realise deals need to be done... and in some cases it will be interesting to see who blinks first.

I've heard there could be as many as four new faces today, as well as a few departures.

My only reservation is if the deals we are progressing go to the wire, do we have too many balls in the air to get all of them over line?
 
How many spots in our 25 man squad do we currently have available? Well by my reckoning it currently looks like this:

1) Maxwell
2) Grimshaw
3) Moore
4) Garbutt
5) James
6) Husband
7) Gretarsson
8) Ekpiteta
9) Keogh
10) Connolly
11) Dougall
12) Stewart
13) Wintle
14) Mitchell
15) Anderson
16) Bowler
17) Hamilton
18) Yates
19) John-Jules
20) Lavery
21) Madine

Casey and Carey are U21 players.

So that's 4 spots available. However, unless rules are different in the Championship, we'll have to have one of our own U21 players on the bench or register one in the squad (like we did with Jack Sims last season). The most logical person to register would be Brad Holmes, and that would leave us three free spots.

Ward and Virtue unlikely to be registered due to injury and we're under no obligation to register the likes of Howe and Sarkic, who obviously remain available for transfer.

Agree with all the above 👍

But registering Brad Holmes would not take up a spot in the 25 man squad, as he is under 21

We would have to have him on the bench of 7 subs or alternatively only name 6 subs which would defeat the object of trying to produce homemade talent

If you register an U21 player in the 25 then they count towards the 25. It's what we did with Jack Sims second half of last season to avoid having to have a youngster on the bench/go with six subs.

Only if he's under 21 on loan from another club, signed players under 21 don't count towards the 25 man squad

Jack Sims was not part of the 25 man squad, he was named on the bench as a club developed under 21 which every

club have to do.

Eight of the 25 must be home-grown - a player, regardless of nationality, that has been registered with any club associated with the English or Welsh FA for at least three years before reaching 12 years old.

Any player aged 21 or under (on the books) doesn’t have to be included in the 25-man squad.

However, unlike League One, any loan player - irrespective of age - must be included.

Haha, no worries. What you've posted is correct (in terms of the rules), but after we signed Stuart Moore the club registered Jack Sims in the 25 to enable Moore to be named on the bench. If I get five minutes I'll try and find the snippet where Matt Scrafton confirmed this.
 
Sterling now confirmed, so he is one of the 4. Gabriel should be another. We could of course ship out one or two of the list above
