Who has seen us automatically promoted?

Dumpdale 1970. Doesn't really get better than that does it?

1985 also but barely remember it.

Technically we didn't see the team promoted in 1985 as it mathematically happened on the Friday night after Darlo away when Hereford failed to win and before we then drew 3-3 with Torquay at home on the Saturday

Was alive when promoted in '70 but wasn't that bothered as a 7 year old. Didn't realise what it meant.

Remember the '85 promotion year 👍

Sadly missed the 1970 promotion (was only 8 and hadn't started watching the Pool).
I was at the home game against Torquay; it was a relaxed atmosphere because our promotion had already been confirmed as TAM says.
We scored after a few seconds - direct from their kick off as I recall. Think it was Eamon O'Keefe who intercepted a pass back to their keeper?

Then the wheels fell off a bit before we levelled. Surprised the gate was less than 8k though.

Recall we were 3-2 with minutes remaining Fans were lining the cinder track ready for the pitch invasion ( wasn't there a couple of false starts ? ) Anyway most didn't know ( or care ) that Torquay equalised with what must have been just about the last kick of the game
Genuinely think we'd have gone up again the following year if Eamonn hadn't had his injury when he did - he'd scored 14 in the first 13 games playing midfield !

Was on the west paddock for the Torquay game. Missed Eamonn’s goal due to the queues outside and missed their late equaliser due to fans on the side of the pitch.

I was at Deepdale in 1970, but as I had cadged a lift to the match, I had to leave with the driver immediately after the game. Thousands didn’t !
There were c.31k packed in that night, and c.10k of ‘em had made the short trip. Lancashire Police reported that Blackpool Supporters had later left a paper trail of empty bottles all along the Preston New Road. After the match most of the away support descended on the local pubs, and consumed the maximum amount of alcohol they could, in the short time available, and then walked home to Blackpool. A daisy chain of tangerine scarfs stretching for at least a mile during the four hour hike. Those who did it said it seemed like no more than 30 mins, such was combined effect of euphoria and booze. It was like dying, and going to heaven. Promotion back to Div1, and Prescum needing to win their last match by eight or nine to stay up. They didn’t !

Preston in 1970 was my first ever away game.

Darlo wasn't technically the night we went up, but it might as well have been. A wonderful night.

I doubt that there are many (any?) who have seen us clinch promotion at home. By whatever means.

I always feel fortunate to have seen those games in 70/85.
Games I will never forget that we still reminisce about today.
Special moments in the life of a Pool fan. UTMP

They are few and far between, Preston, the hat trick, the crowd and the journey there and back will always remain in my memory, the only other time \i have felt as elated was in 2010 at Wembley. Unfortunately, I couldn't manage the 85 game at Darlington due to running a pub, and Saturday being my busiest day. I did, however, buy a round of drinks for all in the pub. At the time there were four in. 🍻🍻🍺

Always generous 🤣🤣🤣🥂

Wasnt alive in 1970, & too young forthe 84-85 season.
How we havent won automatic promotion with some of the teams we’ve had since 84-85 is strange?
The euphoria ofgoing up via the play offs is fantastic though going up without the nail biting would be great im sure

I remember us beating Hereford at home in 85 and realising we were on our way. Darlington away a highlight and also the Torquay game. John Deary being piggybacked up the back of the stand to celebrate and top scorer.
Hope we can do it automatically again soon.

Would love to see at least once, a season we go up as champions with a 90+ points total.
Could of happened in the 06/07 season, we just seemed a different level to all the teams we played just had a few inconsistent results early on.

Nice one TAM...to be honest I forgot about that promotion but I was definitely there that wonderful evening at Deepdale😀😉😉😀😀👍👍👍😁😁...though to me the draw at Swindon was the one that set everything up..and yes I was there too😀

late edit...effing T’Rovers have won at Bardiff...please God it doesn’t let the Nobbers back into the equation.

There are some photos of the pitch invasion in 1985 on the thread on this board, old photos. Brilliant images of a golden era. We had a gate of 8,500 v Hereford, nearly 8,000 with no Torquay fans , almost 8,000 against Chesterfield and we took nearly 4,000 to both Bury and Darlington all in the second half of that season. We had double the number of most other teams average home crowds in a dark era for football attendances . Great days and the only time I have seen us again automatic promotion.

Yes 1970. I was in the middle of revising for my final examinations at Lancaster University and hitch hiked down the A6/M6 to Deepdale. What a night! With regard to football and watching the Pool since 1954 only May 2010 has come close.
