Why can't our cup form translate to the league!

5 wins out of 6 in all cup competitions so far and yet only 6 out of 17 league wins - does Critch approach cup games differently? Least I suppose it's good news if we reach the Play Offs!

I think it's apples and oranges. The cup opposition so far has been very weak.

The EFL Trophy is against League Two and U21 sides, and our FA-cup game was against a very small team (and the next round game won't be much different to last night's standard). Our EFL Cup win against Derby was a great result, but obviously it was unlucky for us to get PL opposition in the second round.

One very positive thing is that we have won our EFL Trophy games without the involvement of a lot of the first team squad. That says a lot about our depth. It's great to see the players on the fringes get minutes and be successful.

It probably helps having favourable fixtures so far. The EFL group appeared abysmal, I’ve said all along I fancy us to win that as IMO we’ve got at least 18 players that can fill in anywhere on the pitch, Critchley does like to tinker and it worked first time around…..really worked. So we have always got fresh players wanting to put that extra effort in to get more game time.

I completely agree. It's partly why I don't buy the "cups are a waste of time" argument I sometimes hear. It's great to give the youngsters something to focus on, and be ready to take their chance when it comes.

On the subject of "extra effort", three or four times last night I saw Donkor absolutely busting a lung to get back into a defensive position when we lost possession and Morecambe countered. It's only a small thing, but I love to see it.

Love the Mickey mouse cup games.
Enjoy, no pressure, seeing the squad players.
Oh & we attack!!!

Cos we're a cup team! We're the Wembley wizards. We get promoted via the knock out option. We win Anglo Italian cups. And Leyland Dafs. And the FA Cup.

Well, we have a great chance now.

Need minimum of 20 points from those 11 games, get those and we’ll be in the play off mix and if we fly towards the end of the season you never know.

Gotta be a few 0-0s in there again eh JJ? 😅

These dog and duck cups don’t have the same pressure
Agreed, just noise - apart from the potential income of a one of FA Cup game. The rest are really just about widening the reach of game time for returnees and youngsters on the fringe...
