Why do we seem to only be able to play for 45m?

This season we seem to have sorted the dodgy hamstring issue - only Joseph, Lavery and Virue this season - three seems reasonable if not good for the time into the season that we are. We always seem to go deeper and deeper the longer the game goes on which suggests to me it’s a fitness issue. Lavery for example always looks fooked after about 70 minutes.
Lavery reminds me a bit of Charlie Adam, totally different kind of player, but CA needed to play to get to his maximum fitness level and even then he could run out of steam. Lavery looked annoyed to be taken off he probably thought he could score a few goals but Bolton next week is much more important and he is starting to show the form we know he is capable of.

He’s always ushering them forward… I think there’s a mentality that developed last year, which needs to be eradicated.
X3. Fully agree mate.
Regardless of that, as you well know, there are quite a few on here who simply cannot look any further than blame the manager
The thing is, it’s not just us who play like that. How many games do you see where a team is leading and for some reason the opposition throw the kitchen sink at them and they all sit back and invite the unnecessary pressure.
Why do teams need to defend corners or set pieces by cramming all 11 players into the box when the easiest thing in the world is to leave 2 players on the half way line which would automatically relieve the pressure

Bromley had better chances than us yesterday but couldn’t convert..

Had Lavery’s shot hit the bar and come out then it would have been a very different match

Dembele’s goal was absolutely magic
The reason it went pear shaped 2nd half is he just didn’t get involved (though it might have been be wise he was smacked in the face just before h t) either way he should have come off much earlier and our subs were 3rd XI subs rather than 1st XI

But let’s be happy we’re virtually in the 3rd Rd

It’s about time - he has been dreadful for the last 18 months. He has never been quite the same since he did his hamstring against Blackburn the first year back in the Champ.

He looks a bit like him as well

For the record I wasn’t having a chip at Critchley rather it was an observation on how many games we’ve had one great half and one not so great
There’s definitely a pattern and it’s bizarre

Tim, very often the opposition makes changes - Cheltenham at home for example - and we struggled to react/adapt. For sure there is an element of Critch not be proactive in his subs - but there seems to be a mentality of “we’ve done really well first half let’s just hang on now” . I can’t put my finger on it but it’s an issue.

it’s not always occurring in the second half though, in fact vs Fleetwood, Peterborough & Oxford recently our second half performances have been much improved.

That's awesome Albert - you always been to games and watched them all that time? i was 7/8 when i first went and remember the goal of the season game, the Sam Ellis days, and the rest is history
To be perfectly honest, I haven’t been watching all that time. I left the Gold Coast in 1971 and spent the next 30+ years working in different areas of the country. I watched when I could and have always supported the pool. We returned in 2003 and have, except of course the boycott years, had season tickets ever since. We being myself and Mrs Ross.😁

Again Albert every credit to you and Mrs Ross - me to except the boycott years i go with my other half also

Yes but after poor 1st halves
My OP was not second half specific
No team in this league is consistent for 90+ minutes, every team will have bad or average spellls in games but our issue seems to be stark in that we play well for 45 mins only - be that first or second half. I still say there is a mentality issue and I feel we lack fitness and or durability particularly in the second half.

At no point in the last 20 minutes plus at Fleetwood (after Blackpool made the Sub) did Blackpool Invite Pressure. To suggest that they did is total bull!!

During that period of the game Blackpool must have had 90% of the possession at least and the overwhelming majority of it was us pressurising Fleetwood in their half. They literally had the breakaway chance (result of us attacking) where they scored from a long range shot and then maybe further combined 30 seconds of play where they were in possession in our half.

I really don't think you could have seen a more one sided last 20 minutes and Fleetwood were the only Team who were under sustained pressure for the entire time. How anyone could genuinely suggest that we sat back and invited pressure after watching the end to that game is beyond me....

Seriously where did you come up with this rubbish from??
So taking Rhodes off and replacing him with Morgan left one up front, so as soon as the ball go’s forward and we lose it the opposition are straight back at us.
as happened when they scored luv xx

What a load of bollocks ….. Luv xx

Try watching the game and focusing on what actually happened in reality instead of just making stuff up that only happened in your head 😂

I can’t remember a season where we’ve played such Jekyll and Hyde performances between one half and the other. What’s going on?
My hope is that by the time Joseph is back that we will always stick with two up front and two players who can build on whatever we have.
Many clubs in this league would kill for Rhodes, Lavery, Dembele and Joseph.

Its a bit hard to back this up as it bas been an on going problem all season I agree but I think maybe for Saturdays game in particular it may of been the case of lets not get any injuries?? I dont think we got out of first gear tbh and would like to think if we had too we could of upped the tempo in the 2nd half but being on a plastic pitch (notorious for causing ACL/Muscle injuries) and awful conditions maybe it was planned to just see the game out as safe as possible and if they score then we will try get a 3rd

I don’t think you can under-estimate the impact that playing on plastic can have as anyone who’s played an 11 aside at Dumpdale or other similar would testify.

Especially when it’s wet like that, it’s easy to injure yourself and the bounce and the way you can tackle is all very different. Very easy to remove a layer of skin etc..

My football career was ended on plastic. JJB, Trafford Centre, June 1991, cartilage and ACL!
