Why don’t teenage lads get their ear pierced anymore?

All the rage when I was at secondary school late 70s early 80s. Most had the left ear only, have vague memories if you had the right ear done it meant you were gay, then a few had both done which threw a spanner in the works. Few soft lads bottled it at the last minute due to parents not being happy. Just wondered if tattoos have now taken over as the in thing.

Yeah, in the 70's I had a cheap ring one done in the left ear, eventually bought a better one and wore it for many years. I'm 70 now and can still feel where it was if I press my ear lobe. On one trip to Reading festival (1976 i think) I bought a ceramic blue bird that I some times used to wear attached to my earing. (yea I know but it was the 70's) As you say, don't see it much these days, although other piercings seemed to have had a period, like eyebrow and nose piercings. I think Tats have sort of become popular these days as you say.

At school in the 70s lads used to pierce there own ears. Freeze the lobe with a couple of ice cubes then pop a needle through that had previously been heated up to sanitise it. Stick a sleeper in and cover it with a couple of plasters, job done 👍

I ended up with 2 in the left and 1 in the right

Had my left ear done in 1973 and had to have several repeats as it closed up. Was very useful in my job at one time. Promised I wouldn't wear Sleepers or Studs when my lad got married, so at the age of 60 that was that.

After over 40 years of wearing one, I still miss it.

Had my left ear done in late 80’s and still occasionally wear a stud in it. If I remember rightly it used to cost the same whether you had one ear done or both at the same time.
Yes, in my day, lads who had both ears done were considered to bat for t’other side.

Had mine done as an 11 year old in 1978 - then added two more (left ear) still got 3 titanium studs in at 54 😎wife tells me to take them out and grow up 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Had my left done because a girl told me it was 'hot'. Never got anywhere with her, and at one point she was the fiancé of Titus Bramble 😄

Double jabbed in the left ear(too old to wear them now) also had the nipple pierced when younger got to admit I've had a couple of operations and the snip whilst still awake but nothing comes close to the pain of having that done!

There was one on Naked Attraction when me and the Missus were watching and she did enquire what happens when you go through a metal detector at the airport .. can't say I'd fancy removing one of those heading in to departures!
I used to run a tattoo and body piercing studio in the town centre many years ago. I have seen things.. unseeable things...unspeakable horrors that will probably be etched into my brain untill my dying day 😕
