Why don't we have any skyscrapers or tall buildings?

blackpool used to be full of architectural gems, the open air baths at south shore, the art deco building at the north entrance to the PB, the edwardian building on the pr0m where it meets where it meets chapel street, the solarium building at harrowside, the old woolworths building, there is no need to build skyscrapers, but there is absolutely no reason for some of the shisser that has been built in blackpool over the last forty years starting with the eyesore that is the houndshill centre.

I would build a new tower, around the existing one and extending up to 1,700 feet. That would make a statement but I would leave the original within its first base.

Tall buildings are generally only built when the land value makes it more economically viable to do so or if someone wants a vanity project/ wants to build a building that will impact the skyline as a sort of "vanity project".

We do need more better buildings but detracting from the tower by building a taller building? Why?

I would love Blackpool to build some stylish buildings, perhaps Art Deco as it suits the town, rather than the bland, orange brick and steel identikit 1980s buildings.

But first, we have to clean up all the decrepit buildings such as derelict hotels or clear them out. We do not need skyscrapers at all. What we really need is the Super-Casino, still, with its associated entertainment.

Bloody expensive to build. The higher you go the more cost per sq ft. Also values in Blackpool are crap making it very hard to secure funding to build

Fantastic idea, nowhere in the UK has them and would definitely put Blackpool back in the map. I’ve lived in a few high rise apartments highest being 21st floor, not only do you get a fantastic view it’s also fascinating being surrounded by other big buildings wether up high or down on the ground.

Leeds is full of them. OK if you don't have kids but after that, no fun with a houseful of kids.

Define full, and how big are they?

My idyllic home would be in the countryside and never envisaged living up high but I really enjoyed the experience, didn’t have my child with me but had two dogs, just think Mary Mungo and Midge.

Back in the ground now though👍

That new civil service office block is going to be quite high.
Not skyscraper high, but probably 2nd or 3rd highest in Blackpool.

Derby baths wasn’t too bad, never understood why they pulled it down!
