Winning before we kick off!

And PNE) have said Blackpool had won the game by 14:30 on Saturday as a consequence of the fans singing in the north. What do you think ? Can we really affect the players performance ( including the opposition) before game even kicks off?. I must admit the singing in the north during the warm up was (I’m embarrassed to say) very moving.

It can only help for sure.

And part of the development is learning how to channel the energy and passion. if you're going to come out, see/hear the atmosphere and get all emotional (like I know I would), then the occasion might get the better of you. But knowing how to use it positively, to get the extra bit needed to go past or close down when you're already dead on your feet.

Most of them will already have played at, if not for, clubs where the atmosphere is borderline apathetic, hostile, nervous, overly critical - all of which aren't gong to get the best from a player. Not really wanting to pick specifics, but imagine playing for Sunderland with their fan expectations, it'll be great when they're winning awful if they're not.

We don't have that at the moment, and long may it continue.

I've always taken the view that slagging someone won't improve their performance. If your boss was stood behind you criticising your every action, it wouldn't improve your productivity in the long run, as you'd be nervous about making a mistake constantly knowing you'd be slated for it.

Football is just the same. What I love at the moment is we have supporters not spectators

Agreed. It was noticeable in the Blackburn game that their players' heads dropped during their poor first half when t'rovers fans were slagging them off. The same happened to a lesser extent in thr Barnsley game.

When we went 2-0 down at Bournemouth and again at Reading, our fans never stopped getting behind the team. Critch has already acknowledged several times the difference our fans make to the team. We don't put them under more pressure which they don't need, and the atmosphere prior to the game can only motivate them imo 👏 👏

I think we've created an environment where the players feel comfortable that they won't get slated if they make a mistake. That's important because you want them to feel like the fans have got their back when they're on the pitch and it can only help their confidence.
Anyone who thinks it doesn't help, well we've come back for a point at Bristol City, come back for a point at Bournemouth, come back to win at Middlesbrough, come back to win at Reading, and all while the fans have been giving 100% support even while we're losing. It's no coincidence.

Totally agree. Following on from what you've said, as we've seen in recent years footballers (whilst outwardly full of confidence) seem as susceptible to mental health issues as the rest of us (of course).
I would imagine most respond better to a bit of praise and encouragement from their coaches and managers and I can easily see a few poor performances, getting a bollocking, getting dropped etc, seriously affecting not only their confidence but their mental health too.
Add to that having the crowd on your back, literally verbally abusing you for any missed pass or tackle, all the names under the sun, it's no wonder they might retire into their shell a bit, or worse.
Ok, SOME will respond positively, but I think many will be praying the ball comes nowhere near them after a ton of flak.
Conversely the same must apply. When we concede, one or two are gonna think fuck that was my fault, but our fans end up supporting us more than the team that's just scored!!!!
GOT to be a massive boost. In my opinion it 100% helps our players. Critch referred to listening before kick off, it absolutely MUST give everyone a lift 🧡

So true

it is like a dream come true, a couple of year ago we were in receivership, a year ago near bottom of league one, the progress we are making is amazing, a great set of appreciative fans creating atmosphere to rival anfield on a european night. Everyone is pulling in the same direction, when we do that special things happen. UTMP
