Wolves v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 29.08.23

Yep falling out amongst ourselves in the concourse it seems. This is not the place for speculation however I understand punches were thrown.
I assume it’s a physical representation of opinions on here…one probably thinks we’re shite…the other that everything will be fine…

At the moment it feels like we are a poor team with no leadership from the manager. I thought when Downes came as Director of Sport ( or whatever his correct title is ) then our recruitment would have improved . But seems on similar lines to before, but with fewer loans as yet.
Scouts and sporting directors can highlight all the good players in the world, you need the will and the money to buy them.

Do we have that?

Aside from Critchley the first time around, every other manager Sadler has appointed has been one that's been unpopular with a significant portion of the fanbase. And three of the five he's appointed have been former BFC managers. That's a huge concern to me. I don't think he has a clue when it comes to managerial appointments, which is why he goes with familiarity even in the face of significant fan opposition.

We may have been playing Prem opposition, and I don't expect us to win, but I think the fans that went deserved to see us put in a display that was sufficient to have one effort on target. The fact we didn't, and haven't scored for five consecutive games now, is dreadful. Truly dreadful.

We continually took a stance under the Oystons that the season seemed to start after the transfer window ended, and we were only concerned with bringing in the players that made any kind of difference at the last minute. We don't seem to have changed that philosophy, and while Sadler isn't comparable with the Oystons on almost every front (imo), I'm disappointed this behaviour hasn't changed. This is the reason why we never achieve automatic promotion - because other clubs are largely ready and better prepared, and we're still pissing around trying to find some round pegs for round holes after the first half dozen games.

If the ambition is to win promotion, a large chunk of the Yates money will need to be spent (yes I know transfer fees aren't everything, but the fact is we haven't replaced any of the quality we've lost, and that costs money whether it's transfer fees, wages, or both). If we don't spend that money this week, I think it's highly unlikely we'll be anywhere close to troubling the top six.

I wouldn't be getting rid of Critchley, it is still early and I think we'll improve. I just think it's massively disappointing that there was a huge opportunity to finally achieve one of the top two spots, and the signs right now are that we're messing it up again because you really have to be on it from the very first game.

Quick question. Who was the last manager the 'fanbase' agreed on?

Let's be honest we only had one fit forward available and were resting Husband, and missing our best right back Gabriel. Also, add the fact
that we have lost our best-attacking players in Bowler, Yates, Anderson, and Madine is it any wonder that we lost to a premier league team
with a 100 million plus advantage that wanted to win. We will not play anyone this season in League One as good as Wolves, and have that quality of finishing.

Critchley first time around? Even Dobbie wasn’t accepted by some of our more challenged fans before and after his stint (despite being the only manager to produce exciting attacking and a winning football team)

Fotmob saying Thompson was the best player for us suppose critchley will put the blinkers on and play Connolly there instead against Wigan again on Saturday the little tosser.

True, but although I found the Stains abhorrent, supporting the Pool always seemed to have an element of fun and passion and fans usually were a cohesive unit with mostly the same opinions and ambitions ..... and we actually won a few things too!
I think the Oystons appointed better managers. They had Jimmy Armfield to advise them - if only he was still around. SS would do worse than to get one or two past players on the board to help the decision making.

There's not many. But there's also not many that have seen such polarising views than the ones SS has appointed imo.

I wouldn't disagree there.

Grayson was the worst.

Critchley ... I could see the logic and I'm not going to spit the dummy just yet. We can't career from one Manager to the next. Or even just keep bleating the name of the person we didn't go for.

It's idiotic.

According to Voy, I was fawning about his return!! I just wanted him to do well but I never thought he would and I still don't. You'll come round, just give it a bit of time.

I’ll never come round to this kind of reactive nonsense… I fully understand being disappointed with results, but come on !!

Once we appoint a manager (whoever he is) he needs to be given a fair crack at the whip. The behaviour of many of our fans following recent appointments isn’t helping anyone.

Apart from Sadler appointed two of Armfield's previous recommends in Appleton and Grayson.

Sadly I'm going to be right though, but nothing would please me more if I was wrong.

Yeah I don't think we should be contemplating a managerial change. I'm confident we'll improve, but it's deflating to continually make a pigs ear of the August fixtures year on year.

Around half the fan base didn’t want Quitchley re-appointed, after the way he left us first time around. It was surely blatantly obvious to those who brought him back, that if he got off to a poor start, the atmosphere amongst fans would quickly turn toxic. That is exactly what has happened! Should be obvious to anyone.

Of course it was expected. Same way if Dobbie had got the job and made the same start.

It's just the way fans are nowadays.

No you’re not going to be right mate, you couldn’t possibly have got it more wrong. Calling for the Manager’s head after a handful of games can never ever be right.

It’s tough enough for any new manager as it is, without having fans on their backs after a handful of games.
