Workers rights during Coronavirus

It's come to my attention that a young friend of my Grandson was told he had been replaced after returning to work having isolated after a positive Covid19 test. I've had a quick look on the Net but can't find anything yet. I'm guessing it was a Zero hours contract (due to the nature of the work) & it's very unlikely he's been there more than 2 years. It seems harsh to me & I wondered if anyone has any knowledge of his rights.

If he’s less than two years service his rights are very limited unless he’s been been discriminated against on the grounds of a protected characteristic
