Worse away performance in my 40 years

It was just a typical Blackpool away performance. Plenty of endeavour but ultimately shite and lacking any sort of quality. These performances are becoming a bit embarrassing.

The lack of a proper goal scorer has been staring us in the face since the summer (Bishop…) and still not addressed. If you get a goal out of nothing it takes the pressure off and lifts the team but we have nobody who fits the bill.

Even the cod’s realised that with recently acquiring Marriott and Stockley. Nobody worries about our forward line as we have to have five or six chances and sustained pressure to score and rarely get a second.

Still nowhere near the worst performance.

I might get shot down for this, but that was much better than our performance at home against the same opposition in December. That was an utterly humiliating 3 0 defeat. Yesterday, if the header from Yates goes in, or the disallowed goal stands, it's a different game.

We weren't great, but to say it's the worst in 40 years totally overhyped it.
Your correct yesterday's performance was better than the pathetic game against them at home.

Well thank god for that then.
I was getting worried for a second about how shit we are.

We've played way worse than yesterday, many times. Two things made yesterday a crap shoot. Boro are on a hot run of form and playing great football with very decent players. And the manager, new players and existing squad have not worked each other out yet. I have no idea if that'll come together in time but yesterday was always a bonus if we even got a point. Tuesday we absolutely have to get something, and realistically it needs to be a win to get things moving. Odds wise it feels at best like 40:60 in favour of the drop I'm afraid.

I came away feeling a bit down in the dumps (a lot down in the dumps to be fair) about the result, but like you, I didn’t think it was a terrible performance (all things considered) and we did create some good chances…

I think we’ll improve defensively… (it’s a new grouping) and I doubt we’ll face an attacking threat that will create as much of a challenge again this season.

Bit over the top that post. Overran in midfield as we were against Stoke, so surprised we havent addressed it in the window. But Boro are a top quality side and its sensible to say we could have had a draw if things had gone our way with the chances we had. But thats football and even at 2-0 a goal for us would have changed things dramatically. Everyone seeks certainties and thats not what the game is all about. Boro deserved winners as we were cheated at Sheffs Utd.

Reading away 19th jan 2002 and Plymouth away 26th April 2008 , both 3-0 losses were two of the worst I’ve ever seen . Spineless performances both .

I couldn’t give a fuck about stats.. We outplayed Swansea last season with just over 20% possession … I’d rather just go off my own eyesight.👍
80% possession when it's between the keeper and the centre halves in their own area means fuck all.

Watching the ITV EFL programme there were at least 5 goals conceded where the keeper and the defence faffed about. Teams aren't good enough. Even Villa conceded at the top level.

Wait a minute, what about losing 1-0 to the Nobbers January 1994 1st round FA Cup. we were absolutely abysmal. Remember driving back to Pool with BFC59 onboard at 100mph down the M55 then both having to go to work on night shift, so couldn’t even drown our sorrows! 😤

No but only managing to land about 80 successful passes is piss poor in a game of football

There’s an article somewhere that did an analysis of McCarthy and how he was winning games and being successful. It was something of an enigma because his teams have consistently been at the very bottom end of the pass completion stats.

I think you need to pull your head out of those silly spreadsheets mate and start watching some real football 😉

This is proper English Football … Just enjoy it for what it is, and watch the results start to turn our way 👍

We’ll be back to that attacking, exciting (losing) football that you like before you know it 😂

True enough. I don't think enough credit has been given to Boro though. They are a good side. Sometimes you have to admit that.

Match of the Day are quoting xG now, as of its a real thing. It means absolutely nothing.

To be honest though mate the whole McCarthy type of football is shite to watch

I've never been a fan of just booting the ball out or whacking it to the half way line and just playing for territory and set pieces like a fcuking egg chaser

At least some of the other dinosaur types try and score goals Fat Sam being a good example of a 442 or 4411 man who gets the ball wide and into the box

McCarthy is all about safety and not taking risks with men behind the ball

It's fcuking garbage

It's not just about stats either but teams who can't keep the ball and just give it away all the time like we did on Saturday are just set up to fail

I'm really hoping it was a one off as I'm making a right effort to come over to Blackpool tomorrow evening to watch us

Brighton and Hove Albion away in the 03/04 season at the Withdean.

Danny Coid stooped low & headed home after 2 minutes, the boys in tangerine didn’t look back from there.

Unfortunately Coid headed into his own net and the team not looking back meant they missed every tackle and every Brighton attacking run. It was 88 minutes of us having rings played around us.

A truthful representation of the phrase worst away performance.

We lost 3-0 same as Saturday but I’d have loved a disallowed goal or a header against the post.

Great weekend away with my lad though. 👍

It’s not pretty, but surely we’ve got to have a go at home!!

Anyway I’m heading to Tenerife for 10 days shortly, so I’m going to miss the most critical part of the season so far.

We played to keep it tight away from home and we did it well until they scored a great goal, then we had our own chances and it could of been very different.

No panic at all from me, we didn't play well but still caused a good team problems. Next up are two very important games and I fancy us to go unbeaten through those and pick up the all important win that will kickstart us.

My one concern was the team selection, I have never thought Yates and Lavery work together and we've got Bowler back and he was largely anonymous so we need to get him where he can influence the game.

I hope you are right

This week is massive

I was at a New Year's Eve party that night in Birmingham. Somehow the DJ got wind that there was a seasider in the house and played D Ream - Things can only get better.
If I recall correctly Melvin Capleton was in goal that day
Yes he was. We went 1 0 up with an early Bradshaw goal. Think that annoyed them.

Lavery was completely anonymous. I agree that they just don't work as a pair.

The O/P must have a short memory.
Horrendous performances in 2014.
Brentford , Reading and Bournemouth hammered.
Watford when we conceded 7 in second half!
