You too mate, you do realise now though given the demographic of this site that there’s 40 or 50 blokes sat at home wondering if they were the chubby Pool fan in questionNice to hear from you Ticker! Your Alan was going nuts cos the chubby Pool fan near us kept saying 'I don't understand it, we are a good side...'
He was right though, the start of Billy Ayres reign had, or was about to, start
If it's the same guy he was huge. None of us had the b@lls to tell him to move.Behind a 6' 6" giant who usually arrived about 5 minutes before kick off and stood right in front of you with no space to move
Midweek game too. I was there. It was awful.Hartlepool 30 odd years ago .Stone steps ,sleeting ,North Wind ,open to the sea , no roof and lost 2-0 . Bily Ayres tangerine army nearly died of pnuemonia.
I was at Donny v Blackpool FA Cup 2nd round, Dec 1980. We were so bad I ended up watching the airstrip behind the ground - apropos of nothing in particular.Used to be a similar grass bank at Donnys Belle Vue.
I had also tried to forget that day at Belle Vue but you’ve gone and reminded me!I was at Donny v Blackpool FA Cup 2nd round, Dec 1980. We were so bad I ended up watching the airstrip behind the ground - apropos of nothing in particular.
The only time i remember seeing us play at Maine rd was in the 98/99 season... first game of the season and we lost 3-0.... we were housed in a temp stand in the corner of the ground and when we got back to the car it'd been done over... 3 wheels popped and the windows put it! I'll never forget that day!Main Rd a cup game right at the top & I think it was temporary as I seem to remember scaffolding, we were 3 down by the time we got there (due to shite directions & other mitigating circumstances.
You could have stood near that tiny stand they had when they were chucking all kind of everything on us from outside the ground in that infamous Fa cup game…but I agree that area behind the goal was a disgrace.Just saw Chris Hull's Tweet about the old mud bank at Springfield Park - undoubtedly the worst place I have stood as a fan. Anywhere else has similar bid memories?!
Yeah I got the cup bit wrong, that was the one. We got lost looking for the ring road as I think the signage was different to the directions given by the club. Funny thing was a City fan from work bumped into us at the late gate, he got lost too he pleaded with me not to spill the beans. The only time i remember seeing us play at Maine rd. was in the 98/99 season... first game of the season and we lost 3-0.... we were housed in a temp stand in the corner of the ground and when we got back to the car it'd been done over... 3 wheels popped and the windows put it! I only remember it because it was the first time i'd been to the ground. Fortunately I wasn't the one driving and the one who was had been there before. Otherwise I'd have probably been in your shoes!Yeah I got the cup bit wrong, that was the one. Thought that was just at concerts?Behind a 6' 6" giant who usually arrived about 5 minutes before kick off and stood right in front of you with no space to move
First time we'd played in front of more than 30,000 since the day we were relegated against Brighton in 1978. Trivia nonsense...The only time i remember seeing us play at Maine rd was in the 98/99 season... first game of the season and we lost 3-0.... we were housed in a temp stand in the corner of the ground and when we got back to the car it'd been done over... 3 wheels popped and the windows put it! Last time we went to Leeds Arena there was a guy in front of us wearing a stetson.Thought that was just at concerts?
The first time since my birth we'd playing in front of 30k then... glad I remember it but an unfortunate result!First time we'd played in front of more than 30,000 since the day we were relegated against Brighton in 1978. Trivia nonsense...
I remember the old open end there back in the 70's. Pool fans lobbing snowballs at their goalie. Took my girlfriend and she was so cold she started crying!Boundary Park in January. If they ever remake Ice Station Zebra or The Day After Tomorrow and set it in the UK it will be on the location list.
I watched us there on a scorching hot August day, we lost with I think McMahon getting sent off but I got a suntan, fab stadiumAnyone watched us play Brighton in the Withdean stadium? That was supposed to be pretty dire, esp in the rain.
Thank you for that ,my memory is not that good now .Lost 5-3 after cruising at 1-3 up
That game, we were visiting my wife's grandma in London that weekend. Saturday morning we were looking for somewhere to take her out for the day. Knowing the reaction if I suggested it outright, I said let's take her to Brighton. It was agreed it was a lovely idea, so I felt safe to broach the subject of going to the game.We knew a lad on Brightons coaching staff so had the pleasure of seats in the home end and "players bar" afterwards.
The whole place had to be returned to an athletics stadium within some ridiculous time limit after a match had ended.
Amazing to see the goal posts being wheeled away and a net for hammer / discus being in their place within an hr of the game ending. Lost 4-0.
Was that with tears or petrolheard the fourth go in while I was filling up at a station down the road.
And they say romance is dead!I remember the old open end there back in the 70's. Pool fans lobbing snowballs at their goalie. Took my girlfriend and she was so cold she started crying!
The old Doncaster ground was crap and that game marked the beginning of the long descent into lower league hell!I was at Donny v Blackpool FA Cup 2nd round, Dec 1980. We were so bad I ended up watching the airstrip behind the ground - apropos of nothing in particular.
Ginge, I sympathise. I'm in M Block and if I'm travelling by tram I try to get away straight on the final whistle. To do that, however, I usually head down the steps and sit in a vacated seat at the end of an N block row rather than standing on the front concourse, blocking the view for those with low seats.I sit on the ground level at Bloomfield Rd with my pal who is disabled and is in a mobility scooter.
The view is absolutely rubbish.
Link that in with people arriving late, leaving early at half time, arriving late back after half time, leaving their seats to stand and watch the last bits of the game at the front......players warming up in front of us, and you can forget anything at the South end of the ground due to the managers, coaches and officials....really, it is poor by BFC.
I have contacted the SLO on a couple of occasions but was told,
1 they would look into it....and they were aware of the situation.
2 when the new east stand was to be built it the issue would be addressed.
BFC have made great strides since Mr Saddler and his team took over the running of the club and I understand that it's a difficult situation to try to resolve, but literally nothing has happened and it's so frustrating.
Yes ,I went straight from work ,where my mates picked me up. I was only wearing an Harrington jacket and my tea was a mars bar. I was off work for the next two weeks.Midweek game too. I was there. It was awful.
I'm remembering fog and/or frost. Same game?Like Peter Spruce said Halifax, circa 1982/3, lost 2-0 stood on a mound of dirt, stones bricks and all sorts were intermittently thrown from somewhere behind us, Police on Horses pushing us into a single line to get in , Horrendous day.
I remember a little girl sat near us with her dad, at the Reebok stadium, crying because she was so cold. Happily, I was able to give her one of my blankets so vehemently scoffed at by my sons …I remember the old open end there back in the 70's. Pool fans lobbing snowballs at their goalie. Took my girlfriend and she was so cold she started crying!
That wasn't rain, it was a flood. Should have drowned Koko that afternoonSaltergate .
Tbf the view was OK, apart from the rain and the away end being uncovered at the time
