Would 2 wins against Peterborough change things?

Two wins against Posh would definitely paper over the cracks and bring some short term joy to this forum, but two defeats would make it a living hell, and I can’t see anything other than pressure on the manager to go.

I think we have a fair chance of beating The Posh in either game.
Why?
Because they play Football as opposed to the bottom half of the league who play “Thugball”

We have a problem that we don’t have a system to deal with “Thugball”.

The team doesn’t yet have the experience to play Critches “tippy tappy” one touch football, they are not quick enough nor are they accurate with their passes when they try… amongst other “teething” problems.
This enables the opposition the maraud our players as we try to pass the ball up the field.
They press and put two or three players around the ball to stop our play “at all costs” they don’t care about fouling or yellow cards, just stop us playing football.

I suspect that the players are getting frustrated with not having a system to deal with “thugball”

Critch needs to address this problem.
He has a four (?) year contract, he hasn’t done too badly so far, we are certainly nowhere near relegation and could still challenge for a play-off place.
We also have a chance of a Wembley cup final … not to be sniffed at.
I hope he either wakes up to the problem or drafts in an experienced no.2 as he had previously.
I can see us not getting to the Championship this season, but I believe next season we will be the team we all want to see, challenging for automatic promotion.

Can someone have a word with him … not a supporter though 😂

Even if we played well and mullered Peterborough twice, if it isn't carried through to the rest of the season then it just our typical form for the season, so meaningless. Couple of good games or performances then a bad one, then a really bad one, then one that defies description.

Critch hasn’t taught them how to stop “thugball”, so we get overwhelmed.

They need a different set up against the lower clubs and away games.
Probably 442 or similar, then hard pressing and relentless attack, without losing our defensive four positions.

Or something similar, I’m not a football coach🤷

We probably need to stick to our guns, improve and get better at playing the way we are supposed to and start imposing the way we play on the teams who want to clog it.

Instead we’re getting drawn into their game.

It doesn’t matter whether you set up in a 442 a 343 a 433 or a 532, if you’re going to let the opposition sucker you into their game plan, then you’re gonna be on the back foot.

I know … but our fans will have lynched them before the end of the season 😂

Interesting to know if pool weren’t in a semi final , would critchley still be in charge 🤷
can’t sack a manager while there’s a chance pool could get to Wembley and win a trophy 🏆

And what is Simon’s ambition this season , was it to establish our selfs for a season with some normality and stability after last seasons dramas
Or was it get to the playoffs and try and go up on first attempt

It’s been the same for a few seasons really. We’ve been physically weak and too easily got at… For me there’s a lot of carry over from the side that got relegated… Too many weak members - Don’t have the physical or mental drive and toughness when things aren’t quite going for them..

We probably need a bit of a clear out still… Bring in a few more ‘characters’ / winners.

Not sure of Critch’s length of contract .. 4yrs? but at this point I believe he is still sorting out the squad, who and what he has.
The constant playing of different players in and out of their comfort zone, “tinkering” as it has been named is testing their abilities over time whilst maintains a “safe spot” in the league.
Seeing how he can improve and generally create a squad that can challenge for automatic next season.

I suspect this is how NC & SS have planned to use his contract.
Year 1 … prepare and test
Year 2 … go for automatic promotion
Year 3 … Stay in the Championship
Year 4 … Consolidate and improve.

Or not…

Well it’s a great theory and definitely one I could buy into 😂👍

In fairness, I have never thought we were quite ready for an immediate return to the Championship and argue we got promoted too soon last time around (if that can ever be a thing).

For me there’s a lot of work still needed to get us to a point where we are ‘Championship Ready’ and that still involves quite significant changes to this squad.

Huge leap between Years 1 & 2. Suspect Year 1 might be to try to get to the play-offs, which despite the paranoia on here is still a possibility IF a consistent set of results can be put together. To that extent, answering the original question in the thread - victories against Posh won't change anything, but might represent the start of something.

I pondered the same re would he have survived the week if not for the semi final, I guess after today we should be pleased he has.

Well we still have a chance of the playoffs so all the league games are the most important whilst this is still the case.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the BSM games due to seeing different teams and no pressure on the result, it’s been light relief this season.

... I don't know if the players will feel the same way but even though it's the semi final with a Wembley appearance at stake, for me, there is still no pressure. Be delighted if they win it but if they don'tI would be very quick to get over it and concentrate on Bolton.

Agreed, a win and a final will be a bonus but a loss is no great shakes as we can concentrate on the league😂😂

I’m actually back in Europe when the BSM final is on and for some of the run in so depending on what happens I hope to be taking in some games💪⚽

Seemed a fairly obvious question when it was asked but the strange thing is if we win tonight making it 2 wins against Posh and then lose to Bolton on Saturday, those two wins would be quickly forgottten and the baying mob would be back out!!

Agree. Part of me hopes that Peterborough beat us so we can avoid the embarrassment of such a low turnout at Wembley.

Not many will go to Wembley whilst we are performing as we are in the league.
They should stop throwing their toys out of the pram if they can’t be arsed going to Wembley, despite what the competition is.

It’s not a boycott situation, can oppose the manager and still go to games - I did under McCarthy, Appleton

EDIT: not going due to money is a different circumstance
