The thread title states..."and you thought ARE fans were pessimistic." The word 'are' is a a second person singular or plural (you are), and first person plural (we are) of the verb, 'to be'. I suspect the poster used it in mistaken belief that it was the word 'our' which is a first person plural possessive, object pronoun. Hence, the title should read..."and you thought OUR fans were pessimistic'.

I’m still none the wiser but that’s purely down to my inability to grasp it (however much I analyse it) and not down to your explanation. Ellis would be rather ashamed of me, I’m afraid

Basically, he said "are" when he should have said "our".
