Wrong decision.

I was certainly watching at the time but just hold a different view to that of your good self.

I always thought he was overrated when he was with us.

The abilities that I believe he lacks that his father had were not his football abilities, he didn't appear to have the mentality to succeed and lacked his fathers hunger and determination.

I also think that his dad did very well when he managed us, I don't think that's the majority opinion on here but he had 7 players for the pre-season at Kendall and he got the most out of the resources he was afforded and although our results were poor before he was sacked, we still stayed up after the poor run continued under Barry Ferguson and I feel that Ince should be lauded for ensuring we stayed up that season and not criticised for the style of play.

I won't pretend that the style of play was attractive but it was never meant to be, it was about getting the most of what we had and it was effective.
That was Riga and it was Penrith.

I know you know your onions Wiz.

I have no doubt that we were short of players under Riga, we were when the season started but Ince was without enough senior players when we were playing friendlies while preparing for the 2013/14 season.

I appreciate that whether he had enough senior players is open to interpretation so I've off to google the match - if it exists !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, this isn't something I should be quarrelling with you over as you will have forgotten more about the Mighty than I will ever know about them

BUT

I'm still not giving up on this one - not yet anyway.

I have traced a game against Kendall, to be honest I thought they won 2-0 but it was actually 3-1.

I can't find the line ups but I'm convinced we didn't have enough players for the game.

I appreciate that losing 3-1 to Kendall in a pre-season game doesn't mean Ince didn't have enough senior players as we could have just sent kids to such a game.

I can remember Ince complaining about not having enough players in and that he needed them in.

If you were at Kendall Wiz and know that I'm talking b0110x then I will accept that.

Cannot believe Tom is only 29.

He was absolutely sublime for us in the season he arrived and it's harsh to say otherwise.

He "could" and "should" have been a player that left us playing at the very highest level. Whether his dad is to blame is a moot point. He's had a solid career and has probably made a decent wedge too. Not all football players reach their pinnacle. In fact very few.

No issue with Tom Ince. He served us well. Tis a shame he never went to Inter. He'd have suited Italian football with his flair.

145 prem league games there which included some immense performances.
According to premierleague.com Ince has made 48 Premier League appearances, scoring 3 goals and 1 assist.

Matty Phillips 142 appearances, 12 goals, 23 assists.

Here Ince talks - only briefly - about a lack of players after the Kendall game.

I'm thinking my memory hasn't gone, we had seven senior players going into this game according to Ince at the time.

From memory a lot of the chatter at the time suggested that was on Ince's head, Crainey, Baptiste, Phillips (K), GTF, Evatt and others let go on frees, Matt Phillps sold on to QPR because he wanted to hang on to Tom (and run down his contract).

No work done in the 2012/13 season to select likely transfer targets, the targets he did finally identify wanted £20,000+ per week (something that the manager should know before asking to sign them) or were otherwise unrealistic, so he ended up scratching around for whoever was available with predictable results, Neal Bishop probably being his best signing (we could certainly have used him the following season).

Then, Matt Williams quit at the start of May, Ferguson decided he didn't want the job at the end of 2013/14 season, all of the contracts exipred for Ince's stop-gap signings plus the remenants of Holloway's squad (Basham, Cathcart, Gilks, Martinez, Ince (T)) and Riga was left with even less to work with than Ince had 12 months earlier.

So all in all a total disaster and not a decent job by Ince at all.

Not at all, but I was at Penrith when we fielded 8 trialists. Given the owners, it might well have happened at Kendal.

He was our best player by a country mile even when his dad was manager

The team under Ince was poor as it was at the height of the Oyston asset stripping

Some right nonsense on this thread
