Yates contract

Opening contract talks isn’t as easy as closing them, especially for a player in demand. Expect if something does get done that it will offer some kind of protection to the player in the event of relegation

You could conclude from this story that Yates is getting his head turned by offers of big money from Blackburn. WBA and/or others.
These are good problems to have, as it means that we have a valuable asset on our books, but it could enable the player's agent to play the club off against any interested parties.
It is a massive turnaround for Yates who couldn't score or make the team for Rotherham. Critchley is a great manager.

Looks like it's down to the player. He wants to go, he will and pretty soon. Let's hope the new contract is good enough to keep him.

Would players at a L1 (as was) have a release clause?

It's just football, loads of Goals, works his socks off, becomes a target for other clubs.

He is on a L1 contract and will have far bigger deals on the table if offers come in

However. He is our player, under contract and if valued at 5million for example, it would be economic sense to offer Yates as goos a deal as the offers to keep him here plus a signing on fee because we are not going to go out and spend 5 million on a striker when we already have one. SS will see this clearly and will want Yates to stay. I'm sure that if Yates was offered the same deal as the others then he would stay, why move from one Championship club to another? He will know the ambitions of SS as will other players, which is why I wouldn't worry. We are a properly run club now, going in the right direction. I'm convinced he will stay with us.

If SS can nail a lawn for Simms then that would be the icing on the cake and if we could buy him that would be the cherry!!

If we believe the rumours, WBA can probably offer Yates more money than we could realistically afford - this is bound to have an unsettling effect on him. Blackburn will need to replace Armstrong and again will have plenty of money to spend.
The irony is that Yates will score (and look good) in a team that plays the Blackpool way - i.e. a high press and ball into feet. I am guessing his stats are very good (apart from goals total), his work rate is phenomenal. A lot of this is down to Critchley's coaching and the way that we play. He may flop somewhere else like he did at Rotherham.

I also think it send a signal to potential new signings that we're a club not just here to make up the numbers, we want to keep our best players and make progress further up the league. If we manage to keep a player that Forest, Rovers, and WBA all think is good enough for a top half championship club, then that doesn't suggest to me that we're a club who will be hanging around the relegation zone.

I believe if you talked to the owner, directors or management at the club it would be one of positivity
and how we can achieve promotion. Relegation or just staying up is not in the mindset.

We are a properly run club now with serious ambition and as long suffering fans we find this hard to
believe. It's going to be a great ride, so i hope as many fan's as possible get on board 👍

I genuinely don't think that Forest and Rovers will be top half sides.

I think people are reading too much into this. It could be a reward for last season as he is already on a long contract.
Was not Kevin Stewart similarly rewarded?
Hopefully Kenny will also be rewarded

Possibly not, I tend to agree although they are established Championship sides and aren't expected to be near the drop zone......if the bookies are to be believed anyway.

I'm not convinced by Rovers at all. I think the manager has overstayed his welcome and the squad ain't all that.

Is it true Rovers are £180 million in debt?
If so how come they are still spending big on bringing players in?
I don’t really understand football club finance!

I wonder if all the squad have had a built in pay rise with promotion?
As for Jerry, like Ping Pong says the "grass isn't always greener", which is quite often true from a football perspective.
From a monetary perspective it's a different ball game. I'm pretty sure Jerry could get a 2 or 3 year deal elsewhere for at least £20k pw but of course that would also cost the the acquiring club a fee of in excess of £1m.
So like Founts says it will be down to the player and like Wiz says I can't see the attraction of T'Rovers.

Well if Wigan are willing to pay Charlie Wyke £10k a week, Jerry is going to have big aspirations.

They're a lot like PNE aren't they. They exist but that's about it. Nothing particularly to look forward, no real ambitions of making any progress. Rovers fans think Yates would jump at the chance to join them. They seem genuinely shocked when I say that I don't really consider Rovers to be a step up, and that they aren't a significantly bigger club.

Just have a quick Google about Championship wages.
I read that the average wage is around £29k pw. 😲

I don't think any Blackpool player will either. 😉

Thinking about it again, £29k might not be too far away but yes, our promotion won't have done much for the average.

I imagine Norwich would have a big wage bill but would their average be £29k ?

I don't know, £29k just seemed big ?

Here's some information which in some cases includes 2019/20 and others 20/21.
Compare Watford with Wycombe.

Edit.
Compare us to Rotherham.
Interesting to see Bola is only on £2500pw.

These comparision sites are all guesswork. No private company like a football club is going to make available the confidential contract and pay details of its employees. They would d be in breach of data protection laws if they did

Artificial lawn or a proper grass one? Predictive spelling... More of a hindrance than a help at times 😁

The figures listed on that site are inaccurate I'm afraid. They've just lifted figures from Football Manager. There was a very similar website doing the rounds last season with our player's wages on (again, just lifted from FM).

That said, there are some very big wages on offer in this division and that is why, in part, I keep encouraging people to check their expectations about next season. Although we are light years forward from where we were under the Oystons, we are a small fish in a big pond in this division and we'll have to build gradually.

You can't blame Yates or his agent for approaching the club about a new deal given the interest in him (which is genuine). Yates' agent does seem quite chatty though which concerns me. You can read more on his representation here: https://neweraglobalsports.com/

Yes of course I know that. What is factual however are the Club's published accounts. Whilst they didn't tell you what an individual player earns they do tell you the frighteningly large size of the overall pay bill.
