You Never Forget Your First...

...but I have! For the life of me I can't remember who Blackpool played the first time I went to Bloomfield Road.

All I remember is that it was around 2001 and I was perched on a railing in the Stanley Matthews Stand before it was all done up. My dad likes to tell me that a chunk of turf flew past my head after Steve McMahon kicked the ground after a poor decision. I also think we lost... definitely didn't win anyway, but it didn't stop me coming back!

Since I can't fully remember my first game at Bloomfield, I was wondering what other peoples first games were like and what they remember. A nice trip down memory lane.

For me it was Watford at home circa 70/71 season, we won 5-0

I thought, easy this football lark.....

Oh I did laugh about that many years later

Also, I was in the scratching shed at the south end..

It wouldn't have been 70/71 specifically as that was a Div 1 season for us and Watford had never got that hight at the time.

Mine was Div 1 home v Sheffield Utd in April 1967. We were relegated by then. Not that it mattered to me. I was still too young and was only interested in my half time Kit Kat and Bovril. We left early because I couldn't concentrate.

Wind forward 4 or 5 months and I went to every home game from Millwall (0-4) onwards.

As for my first proper snog...I still remember that too!

no idea too was around 84??? old division 4 - we were crap .... just remember in those day being taken by my Great Uncle and sitting on the West Paddock wall with my cousin... God knows who we played the first time we went

Blackpool 5 Watford 0 .......Just looked it up, 1st Jan 1972!!!! better change my tag line then...

Watford for me too bizarrely enough but 1978, think it was a 1 - 1 draw and I was sat in the South Stand with my Dad and big brother Crowngreenpool absolutely fixated at how loud the bloke in front of me could shout Seasiders

It was only in 2001 , if you were a toddler surely you dad remembered 😯

23/08/69 Blackpool 2 Birmingham City 0
I first started watching Blackpool properly in 1969 sitting on the wall in the south paddock.

Despite it being a very good season results wise I remember very little about it. The first game I remember well was the following season when we were 3 nil up against Chelsea and lost 4-3.

Blackpool 0 Reading 1, March 1993. Probably the most uninspiring first game ever! Luckily I was only 5 so don’t remember it.

First away game was PNE 1 Blackpool 0 in the FA cup November 1994, memory a bit better for that one, can still picture the winning goal.

Around 1963 - every time I went we seemed to be playing a team in stripes. So probably Sheff Utd, Sheff Weds, Sunderland (maybe Stoke).

Me too, mind you it was 61 years ago!

Blackpool 1 QPR 1 (3rd April 1970)......

Don't remember too much about the game (although the highlights ARE on You Tube).....as a small boy, I couldn't see very much stood in the South Paddock.

02/04/91 (I think). Pool 6-0 Carlisle. With my Dad in the seats south stand. Pretty sure that helped hook me. Went to playoff final few weeks later too. Two penalty shoot out anguishes in first 12 months set me up for a lifetime of being stoic about football I think, England v West Germany being the first time I took notice of football

Pool Vs Wimbledon 1979/80

Pool won 3-0. Fate brought us to Bloomfield Road that day, as by chance on a day trip from my hometown of Workington, when our bus pulled up on Rigby Road coach park my Dad spotted a flyer outside the old North saying the Dons were todays visitors.

We only went to the match as my Dad and Uncle wanted to see how good this Wimbledon actually were, as it was they who had replaced their beloved Workington Reds in the league.

Sat in the upper tier of the old South stand ( with a cushion ) the sight of the South Stand surges with each goal going in , and the Sea-Sea-Seasiders chant was simply unforgettable.

1975 ish against Burnley night match and we won 3-2 may have been a cup game, my mates dad took us and it blew my mind, sat on the west stand wall❤️

Remember that one well, Dave Bamber with a pivot and turn all in one movement

Mine was definitely 1990-91 season and the one that sticks out was the Aldershot game. Putting some of my dads change in the bucket that was going around to try and keep their club going.

Eamonn O’Keefe’s Testimonial v Everton as a 6 year old. Lost 3-2 I think and my first favourite player (Tony Cunningham) missed a penalty if I remember correctly.

Thought you were talking about something else, and yes, I can remember clearly, even though it was 65 years ago

As I was growing up I went to other football and rugby league matches too. I remember my first of them all.

1961 for me. Pool v Tottenham with Dave Mackay and Danny Blanchflower in the Spurs team.
They won I think 1-3.

February 1975 versus Sunderland. A 3-2 win and that goal of the season from Mickey Walsh. My uncle George could not have picked a better first game to take me to.

As for my first shag, that came some years later but was not as memorable as the above!

My first match was the great Jimmy Armfield's last Don't remember too much about it because I'd never seen so many people all gathered together at once. Never looked back since mind you.

My first home game was against Ipswich town, we had just beaten PNE 2-0 at Deepdale in the opening game of the 67/68 season I think.
We were on holiday in the resort and I had a mate with me. It was a
Monday night game as they were then. Very excited to see the team in the flesh and my first visit to Bloomfield road, I think I was 13 or 14 at the time.
Drab game and both teams cancelled each other out. Boring 0-0 draw. Probably why I sometimes think I am a jinx to the team.

1972 4 years old and I can’t remember either, they were throwing 2ps at us in the Kop so guessing was a bit of rivalry. My grandad didn’t take me again till following season because of it. (Or a good excuse!)

Pool 2 Wigan 0

1987/88 or the season after. John Deary scored twice in front of barely 4k. Methven and Elliot at CH for us.

Blackpool 0 Rochdale 0 1st September 1990.

Tango took me on the pitch before the match and I had a kick about with Ooh Andy Garner! Somewhere there's still a signed football he gave me.

I can remember nothing of the actual game though; other than the above the only things I remember about the day are running up and down the old West Stand with another kid about my age and the fact that the floodlights had been chopped in half and they hadn't got round to put the gantries back up!

Pretty sure it was home to Halifax in 1991.

Mostly remember the "Fish n' chips" crisps they sold in the west stand snack hole and the orange drink in the plastic cups with the foil lids.

Remember my dad saying "if you're bad, we'll take you again".

Oxford Utd 2 Blackpool 0 Saturday 18th April 1970. I lived down south. Pool had just won promotion back to Div 1 in that 3-0 victory over PNE at Deepdale on the Monday. It looked like half the team was still hung over. 😂
