Your first away game…?

Wigan away circa mid eighties. Persisted it down all game, remember a massive slope up to a tiny shelter. Made the Gene Kelly stand look good.

Remember going to a home Anglo Italian night game as a kid, must have been 70/71, cant remember going to any earlier. My first away game was Sheffield Wed but it wasnt really an away game for me as I lived in Yarkshire for a few years think it would be 73 ish, cant remember score. Remember vaguely a few away games in the late 70's, Bury,Oldham,Blackburn.

When my mum wanted a break late 60’s
Went to the odd game with dodgy_dad and his two mates and sons
Morris Minor ffs
When we won my life was in danger
Loved it😛

My first official away day is cheating, as it was Carlisle Utd, and as I live within a couple of hundred yards away from Brunton Park so it doesn’t really count.

The second was a partial disaster as it was a postponed evening match away at York mid December with a frozen pitch. The saving grace was we had a nice meal, a couple of drinks and a bit of sightseeing earlier in the day.

Hartlepool was therefore my first. Not the greatest of grounds, nor the best of journeys, but made all the sweeter with a 1-3 win.

Vague memories of Turf Moor in the early / mid 90’s. I think I was more interested in a can of pop at half time and a happy meal on the way back in to Blackpool though ! First away trip I properly remember is Tranmere in the Worthington Cup in 1999. We had beaten them in the first leg and they were a top Division 1 club at the time. They made it to the final of the competition that year and almost to the Premiership too. Prenton Park seemed huge looking back and we were in the massive stand behind the goal. It was exciting going through the Mersey Tunnel to get there. It felt like we’d travelled forever. We lost 3-1 and dad bollocked me for swearing at Tranmere fans as we left the stand. I did not get a happy meal as a result. Was gutted with the result and the McDonalds outcome !!

PKE on a Friday night, 1991 I think. Taking my son to his first one next week at Sheff Utd
I honestly can't remember us playing them in 1991? Especially on a Friday night?

Don't know my first away. Didn't do one for a few years of supporting Pool as the parents wouldn't let me go. Think it may have been Burnley away in '91 on a Tuesday. Over 18k there and we lost 2-0. Started going to loads of away days after that. My dad said if you can survive Burnley away, you can survive anything. Rough as toast them lot😂

FA cup night match at Preston, November 1994, lost 1-0.

I've had to google it - Huddersfield away 23rd August 1980 in the old third division - 1 all draw and went on the Lancaster and Carnforth Branch supporters coach!

That night was brilliant. I travelled from Chester Law school with a certain Mr Brett Gerrity (first time I’d met him)
We went with two Wimbledon fans who just couldn’t believe the attendance or away support- they were getting 3-4000 in the old First Division
From memory about a thousand from the coaches got locked out but the doors went through and most got in, we just got in as the gates were closed
It was an electric atmosphere that night

Not sure if it was my first but one that sticks out is when we beat Oldham 5-1 and Bloomfield Bear battered by that Owl. Wanted to go to every game home and away after that 😂

Deepdale 2010

Still yet to see us beat them live, draws and losses (barely played them in my lifetime). Hopefully that gets rectified Saturday.

Blackburn 1968 in my old mans new car with my older brother, can’t recall the game apart from that it was a night match, and we stopped for chips in nobberville on way home. 😋
That was my first away game also. Remember it being a night match and we sat high up in the stand at Ewood. Unfortunately lost 2-1. First time my old fella took me to an away game.

Leeds in November? 1970 in the old First Division. Big John Craven scored for Pool but Leeds won 3-1. Harry Thompson was in goal and Jack Charlton towered over him from corners !!!

Not 100% sure, but think it was Newport. The stewards challenged me cos I had a welsh accent and thought I had gone in the wrong end to cause trouble !
I should’ve had them for discrimination 😊

I thought Suddaby's first game was against Hull in the FA cup? Jan71.
I remember Suddaby playing in the LG home game v West Ham In 70/71 not long after we had beaten them in the FA Cup. Pool were winning 1-0 and Suddaby was playing well until he conceded a pen with a needless handball and they scored the equaliser. It finished 1-1. He went on to become a very good defender for Blackpool.

Apart from my dad taking me to a few times to Dumpdale when both were in the first division, it was Stoke. Stan Matthews played against us and we were 2-1 up at halftime but lost 4-2.

Last game 1967/68 season . Pool won 3-1 but a last minute own goal meant QPR got promoted on goal average- not difference as it is now- so Pool finished third.
That was the first away game I went to with my Dad.
Great atmosphere and very disappointed we didn’t get promoted.
Still remember the sha sha zigger zigger zagger Huddersfield.🙄

No idea of the year but will always remember it was Stockport County away and felt the most grown up thing a young lad could have done. Can't even remember the result, was just buzzing to go to another ground.
