Youth team playing Salford.

It's been fairly even since I arrived when we were 2 down. Pool have at least one trialist playing and for some reason Matty Liptrott, who was released at the end of last season, has also started.
Without knowing too much about this years squad there seems to be a few missing.

A wicked deflection gives Salford a third. Pool have brought Yelegon Mariette and Johnston for Liptrott, Matshazi and Strawn.

Of all the teams for us to perform badly against it has to be the horrid MU backup team!
It's unusual for our boys to lose so heavily and I look forward to Insiders report.

We struggled to compete against a strong Salford team. Their first two goals were too easy whilst we looked a little toothless up front until subs were made during the second half. All too often the final ball was lacking and only really had one good chance that missed the target. Plenty of effort but the score line didn’t flatter them too much.

Disappointing today yes but also a littled bit puzzled.
I learned a couple of weeks back that you can now play 3 over age players (limited to 19s I think).
I can understand the reason for this when players miss a season in their final scholarship season (like Bange and Adwarka have done recently) and it also gives an opportunity to 1st year pros to get the odd game if their Club doesn't have any older age group teams.
Of course for every older player that plays it denies the chance to a younger one.
Swings and roundabouts possibly.
Another point to make is that Academies are to there to develop players and they will probably tell you it isn't all about winning. I'd say losing isn't a good habit to get into.
I know I've been away for a while but there was certainly one trialist playing today who was o/18 and had been released by another academy. There were 2 names in the starting 11 I'd never heard of so I'm guessing there was the other might have been a trialist as well.
Also starting today was Matthew Liptrott, who was last years u/18 captain, but released without a contract.
I'm not sure if he was effectively another trialist.
So all in all it looked like a bit of a mix and match team and ended up playing like one.
Whilst I don't know Salford looked like that had a couple of over-age players as well.
Physically there were a lot bigger and stronger than Pool.
As for the game, I missed the first goals, due to the M60 being a car park, but after that the teams were fairly evenly matched with Pool just having the edge possession wise for the remainder of the half.
As for the style of play we look to play the same possession based football that the first team do, playing out from the back, inside out wingers (although we changed that 2nd half) but we had a RB, Jack Moore, playing at LB and a RB who I think is possibly a CB.
If I was to give a MOM I'd probably give it to James Harrison. Prince Yelegon looked lively when he came on as did first year pro John Johnston although the latter should have grabbed a consolation goal at the end.
Partington is Salford City's 1st team's training ground.
You pass Carrington on the way which is now home to Stockport County and Sale Sharks.

Matt Liptrott was injured at the end of his Scholarship and has had surgery so being given the chance to get fit. I think most of the others today are second year Scholars there didn’t seem to be any first years involved.

Didn't realise Stockport were at Carrington. Temporary lease while they do a Sadler style search for a new site to create a new complex with a community campus academy thing.

"The Club is delighted to announce it has secured a lease for a dedicated First Team training facility.

The Championship grade facilities in Carrington contain a large gym, players’ lounge, restaurant, recovery rooms, player briefing rooms, office space and 3 elite training pitches. The Club has signed a 3 year lease with owners, Sale FC Rugby Club and invested in a significant refurbishment programme.

The facility provides a vital short-term training solution, with a longer-term ambition to build new facilities in the Borough of Stockport over the next 3-4 years. The Club is currently working closely with Stockport Borough Council to identify possible sites to build a state of the art Community Football Campus that will house the First Team, Academy teams alongside extensive community facilities that will support grassroots football and promote healthy lifestyles."

The 2 names in the starting 11 I didn't know were Luke Hall and Tyler Grant.
Luke was a trialist who had been released by Sheff Wed at the end of his scholarship. Presumably looking at him for our Development Squad.
Don't know about Grant.
There were also a couple of names on the bench I didn't recognise.
Good luck to Matty Liptrott.
I've noticed the lack of 1st years yesterday.
Don't know if we are looking to play a seperate u/17 team as and when it suits.

Thanks for the report insider. Im hoping to get to see a few home games this season. Your MOTM had a few mentions on twitter over the last couple of games, and I thnk hes scored a couple, maybe one to watch?

There is a report on the Official Site now of the game and in the write-up it describes Matthew Liptrott as a 1st year pro. I must admit that his signing passed me by but well done Matty.

We also have a page on the Official site for the Development Squad although we appear to a bit short on numbers currently.
