Yes, I remember that. Remember it being on the news on the way home.Anyone remember when the Queen Mum had died just after we'd been to Swindon?
Yes I remeber that day ... Couldnt work out why the radio stattions were only playing sombre music on the way home ... dont know if we won or lost thoughAnyone remember when the Queen Mum had died just after we'd been to Swindon?
Was that with Hells Angels??I remember a hell of a day in Cirencester before a game. Absolute mayhem
Yup she used to nip into the 'Stute for a shandy when oop north for the National at Aintree, and occasionally brought the dogs along.I didn’t even know that she supported us. A member of BASIL I assume
It was yes, and easywear bags randomly. Was that with Hells Angels??
Yep , me too. A tremendous atmosphere there and we were a bit lucky to come away with a draw courtesy of a Mickey Burns equaliser beforeWas there for the night game 7th April 1970 , a 1-1 draw on the run in to promotion . I remember a few of us gathering on the terrace at the home end a fair while before ko , but got swiftly moved on when the locals finally arrived ! Swindon were also pushing for promotion, and the place was absolutely rammed , 28, 000 in .
Fairly wild outside on the park after the game. Several coaches. We had an extra passenger on the way back, who slept the whole way. Unfortunately for him we were heading to Lancaster, he was from Fleetwood.Swindon Away 1980
Hope the link works, from Phil Heywood Photography website, featuring some good shots of Pool fans celebrating a goal. First game of the season under Alan Ball, won 2-1 .
I've never seen us beat Swindon at their place.
It's a bit weird for me that Blackpool are playing 2.4 miles away and I can't go watch it.
An incident that , no doubt, your fellow travellers will also remember. Was slightly tipsy last time I was there. Stopped in cirencester I think. Tony Ellis played and maybe scored a penalty. Remember throwing up on the minibus on the way back
As a 17 year old Seasider, that day felt a little like the 300 Spartans!Fairly wild outside on the park after the game. Several coaches. We had an extra passenger on the way back, who slept the whole way. Unfortunately for him we were heading to Lancaster, he was from Fleetwood.
That’s me on the fence at Swindon with my Clash t shirt on ,also went to a night game there !
Went to that one as a 17 year old on the supporters club coach after bunking off college for the afternoon....... wish I hadn’t bothered at 4-1 downJust after I started working in London (July 1984) I joined Basil and went with them to the County Ground in October for a wonderful 4-1 defeat. At the start of the game I didn't realise we were playing in blue and when we opened the scoring on 12 minutes I thought it was a goal against. This prompted one fan to wonder why I wasn't cheering...I seem to recall an expletive or two in the question.
Ha..I was at that too ...gates closed before kick off as it was as you say rammed.Eldest brother lived in Didcot at the time and only just made it in before they closed the gates. Was there for the night game 7th April 1970 , a 1-1 draw on the run in to promotion . I remember a few of us gathering on the terrace at the home end a fair while before ko , but got swiftly moved on when the locals finally arrived ! Swindon were also pushing for promotion, and the place was absolutely rammed , 28, 000 in .
My memory has us 4-0 up at HT and I was still convinced we were going to lose.Winning 6-2 away. Macari was their manager. Night game. 60 of us in the away end . 4-1 at half time. They pulled one back early 2nd half and we all shit it.
Putting football before education naughty manWent to that one as a 17 year old on the supporters club coach after bunking off college for the afternoon....... wish I hadn’t bothered at 4-1 down
You may be right on that. We were joking that we'd probably end up drawing or worse. My memory has us 4-0 up at HT and I was still convinced we were going to lose.
It was a strange experience, being so on top after 45 mins. You may be right on that. We were joking that we'd probably end up drawing or worse.
Think that 60 was a slight exaggeration,,,as to my reckining there was 20 at the most ,,,My memory has us 4-0 up at HT and I was still convinced we were going to lose.
