Oxford United v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 18.04.21

Think a few championship teams will be queuing up for the likes of Simms/Ballard next season.
Let’s just hope were one of them.

Although trying to be happily distracted by my daughter's 16th birthday, the nerves kicked in quite early.

I thought, as the Oxford fans have written above, we were just better than them tonight and won all the important battles.

So pleased to see us take more chances than we missed and I'm still surprised at watching a defensively solid Blackpool where we don't really like we are going to concede.

But It's still only half time; I want a repeat and to go into the final with another clean sheet and win.

All In all, that's as professional a play off semi final first leg as you'll see.

On to Friday.

Come on Blackpool!
And happy birthday to your daughter 🥳🥳

A very late entry to magnanimous comment of the season award. 👍

Can someone forward to Robinson please. 🥴
I think they hadn’t appreciated how good we are because we took our time to bed in.
The quality has always been there in my opinion, but we probably got overlooked because early on in the season we weren’t self-assured enough and were finding our best formation.

I know a lass who’s shagged Madine. Just a little fact for you.
Husband was in the year below me at school.
He's shagged neither Madine nor that lass.
He also wasn't that good (at football) I've nee idea what he's like at shagging

So far, so good. I'm far more confident of playing Blackpool in the final than I am of Oxford.
Aye mate because it’s not like we’ve taken 6 points off Oxford and Blackpool have taken 6 off us. f***ing hell

Both these teams are shite imo problem is so are we

Ellis is very grounded, his touch was unreal tonight. Compare that to 8-10 weeks ago, he's improved massively.

We've probably just made Everton a 3-4 million pound player there.

He's massively improved since he arrived here.

But you're completely wrong about the valuation. Up and coming young goalscorers with EPL clubs are nearer to £20m to £30m.

If he plays like he did tonight for Everton his value will rocket.

Oxford fans were like a library, completely failed to use their home advantage. Our players are gonna be blown away when they finally find out what it’s like to play in front of Pool fans in the playoffs! Cannot wait

Yeah, guess I'm just basing it off of right now and scoring goals in league 1.

I think Everton made him and kindly lent him to us, albeit we have helped his development
I think his very proud mum n dad and the young man himself had a fair bit to do with how he's turned out😁

iFollow worked for us exiles, if you have major problems try using a VPN and iFollow on Friday

Been out in Bierkeller and lost my voice from all the chanting. What a welcome problem to have!

Kept having to pinch myself that we'd just won 0 - 3 in the first leg of the play-offs. Absolutely unbelievable and testament to the quality in this side, onto Friday. Up the MIGHTY POOL!

So proud of the “pool” and not that Neil needs advice but best to approach Friday’s game as a one off and go out and win it. UTMP

What an atmosphere in there last night.
Surely someone has footage of the goal celebrations.

Love the fact Neil is never satisfied, he thought we should have had more goals in the second half. We needed a manager and owner with ambition 👍

The craziest thing is the people who still had doubts a few months ago are now more optimistic than even all us Neilievers have been 🤷‍♂️ It’s a beautiful ‘hold my beer’ moment

Just been stuck in a loop watching the highlights repeatedly on ifollow. Great feeling reliving the moment. Might be tempted by the full match replay tonight. Can’t wait for Friday. Critch sounds determined to have the players recovered, ready and fully focused to finish the job.

If we are in The Championship next season, I hope we get Simms and Ballard on season long loans because they are both young lads and hungry to learn. Neither are good enough to be in Everton and Arsenal first team squads yet, but could be part of The Mighty Pool's foundation for a promotion push at The Premiership.

I think Oxford showed enough during the first leg to be still considered a very real threat come Friday at Bloomers (if they manage to score early in particular). They are an injured beast so we need to be on our game, ride our luck again and the fans need to be the 12th man throughout. Really really looking forward to Friday.

Evening all, Oxford fan in piece, Your gaffer had a plan and it worked a treat, You bossed us, bullied us and outplayed us from top to bottom, credit where credit is due, BUT, don’t underestimate us, Karl (for all the Mickey taking) takes massive pride in his work and rest assured he will be doing everything he can to turn this around) - Things could have be so different early doors if your defender had if got sent off for bringing down Sykes when he was clean through but that’s football, you gained momentum and the rest is history. Our right back Hanson had a stinker together with our left back, plus James Henry and Barker amongst others.

Hopefully we’ll come to your dated seaside town 😎 and produce a miracle, who knows, but in all seriousness, all the best of luck, if you beat us Friday then I believe Your’ll be in the championship next year.
All The Best
