Nottingham Forest v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 16.10.21

The in form team who hadn’t won at home, until today. I don’t accept the argument about players missing as Critchley has said on numerous occasions it’s a squad game and we have a strong squad with good players waiting for a chance, he says. No matter who plays, as I said earlier, the first thing in their minds is backwards, no matter if we are winning or losing, it’s backwards, backwards, backwards. Get the bloody ball in the box and see what happens, there is no urgency about any one of them. A complete change of mind set is required.
That's fine, I see have a different opinion and perspective. We are growing into a higher, tougher division, better than Hull and Peterboro are. T

Forest had only played one home game since Hughton left, 1-1 draw with Millwall. 3 away wins. Narrow win today.

He never got in the game at all. Having said that we are losing 2-1 with ten minutes or so to go and we were continually playing it around and across the back line and on a few occasions they caught is in possession. I'm not necessarily saying lump it forward but players need to be aware of what's happening around them. It sounds daft but moves were breaking down on the edge of OUR own box. Way too much indecision, poor decision making, and poor passing.
Yes, that's coming across from others. OK, I'll lay off Carey. I hope to see him in action soon though.
He got us promoted yes, from league one. This is a higher level which requires, at times, a different way of playing. He seems to think that what was effective last season will work again this season, with, virtually, the same players. Sometimes it will, other times it won’t, but we seem unable to adapt during a game. When things aren’t going your way, change them. And I don’t necessarily mean personnel, just tactics.
Thanks. Part sympathy for your view. Part faith in Critch.

It’s not the defeat I’m disappointed with, it’s the manner of that defeat. Ok we only lost by the odd goal, but we never looked dangerous or if we were going to get anything out of the game. We had enough time to equalise a second time but showed no urgency whatsoever. Not enough forward movement, almost no balls into the danger areas and nut much desire.

I only managed to get the game on to watch 1 minute before we scored, we bossed that second half possession wise and had a nailed on pen on TJJ waved away by the ref(1-1) at the time, saying he took the ball, the guy didn’t touch the ball.
Fine margins decide most games at this level, could quite easily have got 3 points but came away with none, that’s football!

Do you mean JJPool the inept negative fan/critic. Or TJJ.. Could really really do with a goal, player? 🤔
Inept negative fan/critic.....

Oh sorry font of all football knowledge.

I'm sure you were clapping gleefully when we gave it away under no pressure or near the end when rather than get it in the box and maybe get level, we do the safe passes and get nowhere.

Breaking news, we didn't deserve anything from the game as we weren't good enough to create hardly anything.

🙄

We've beaten Fulham, drawn with Bournemouth, narrow defeat against Coventry, beaten Rovers. We are pretty much on a level with these sides. The league table is down to the first 5 games when we were adjusting and missing people.

Where ARE the balls...
No shit, quickly typed sentance mid game changed from something like where is the urgency and missed it 🙄

I would like to see us line up differently depending on home or away and opposition. We need to be less predictable and we look to be short of bodies in midfield which is making it hard to create chances in open play.

Not the best performance by a long way. But we still had our moments. gabriel had a bit of a mare first half, but found his feet second half. thougrht Madine and Jerry did Ok without setting the world on fire. Tjj, theres a very good player in there might be a bit lightweight though. Bowler was at his both frustrating and brilliant best quite often in the same move.

Thought Stewart was a bit out of the game never really go going, we wer much better when King kenny arrived, Wintle had a decent game up till the last 15 minutes when he decided to play suicide football, which seemed to spread across the whole back line for a period. Keogh was left standing so many times, Marv was basically doing the job of two again, and he didnt have his best game in tangerine.

forget about it, im sure critch will look at what the problems are and we go again on Tuesday.

Given the absentees I thought the cover that was brought in did ok overall but we didnt mitigate the absence of Anderson and I'm sure had Dougall been deemed fresh enough to start as well we may have had enough to get us over the line.

The plus column is Yates has scored again Grimshaw didn't let us down Gabriel got 90mins under his belt and we didn't get hammered far from it. Onwards
.

I watched the classic forest game the other night and for me to see that team taking chances with the ball, being positive is what is missing a lot in this team.

Too safe a lot of the time.

Sometimes you have to try, try the through ball etc.

Sadly, envisaged this result. Depleted squad, with arguably our best players missing. Forest fans now believing they’re World beaters. Given a fully fit team, we’d have tonked them. Especially if Hughton had still been there. Ah well. We move on.

Poor today, poor team selection, poor passing, poor decision making. We move on. Forest deserved the three points.

Not much in the game. Some nice possession 2nd half when Mitchell and Dougall came on. We just don't make enough of promising positions. Should have tested their goalie more. Madine holds the ball up well but offers no goal threat..nor does John Jules. Can't win games if you don't shoot.

I think we were at our nut bush city ground limits.

I was more disappointed with 2 points dropped against a poor Hull side. Today we got beat by the better team... it happens, take the positive, which for me was Yates 2 in 2 now... we’re due a positive result at Reading 👍🧡

Just back, we didn’t deserve anything.

They pressed us well, but we invited all sort of trouble playing the ball around at the back. We had Madine in the team and we failed to use him, to pin them back. We must have wasted 20 minutes of the game passing in our own half.

Jerry excellent all round, Gabriel had a good game, arguable he was slightly too far off his man for the goal, but then the 2 centre backs didn’t prevent the goal. Gabriel did prevent 2 goals with great covering tackles 2nd half.

Bowler, poor again, zero end product. The cross for the goal was straight into the keepers hands, only for the defender to do us a favour. The lad flatters to deceive, and Mitchell is just miles ahead.

On the other side, TJJ just nothing. A boy against men. He cost us the 2nd goal by trotting to the ball in the corner - their lad was 10m behind him and should never have got that ball up the pitch, allowing them to break.

Get Hubby in for Garbutt, who really isn’t delivering much going forward and defensively he gets ripped.

Big away following and a toothless performance. They are not a great team, good going forward, but we just didn’t test them at the back.

The positive, well we are disappointed, because we are better than that.

Agree with every word.

The main positive for me is that neither Sterling nor Keshi are injured and should be back for Reading. 👍

Just back myself and totally agree about TJJ costing us the second goal. Trotted after the ball following a cross beyond their backpost. Allowed the right back to get in front of him and get the ball forward.
Bowler is frustrating, but only he or Gabriel looked like creating anything.
We get a free kick towards the end for handball in a promising position, play it short and breaks down. At the very end we get an opportunity for a Gabriel long throw, go short and it breaks down again.
Frustrating, but the better side won and we have key players out.

Garbutt's performances have been baffling recently. It's like he's scared to get caught up the pitch and he ends up offering nothing in attack, such a come down from last season when he was one of our biggest threats.

I think we'll learn a lot about TJJ from how he responds to today.

Bowler just stands there demanding the ball to feet when he is surrounded instead of making a run off the ball, it drives me crazy and must be frustrating for Gabriel to play behind.

Well said. Some supporters expect us to walk the toughest league in the world. So many teams with Prem money. If they’re that disappointed, then go and watch City.
Have some perspective, we’re holding our own. Bound to get the odd setback. Just learn from it
Just said the same to my lad on the way home in the car. We're Blackpool, newly promoted and the reality is we will lose more than we win. However, we will be fine this season, baby steps.

I think with Garbutt, it’s his lack of pace at Championship level, so he’s caught as you say.

NC has shuffled the pack and Hubby needs a chance.

You obviously haven’t watched the replay as he quite clearly got the ball.

I feel sorry for the 2k fans who travelled. Why did the players give such an inept performance when they haven't played for 2 weeks? They can't say they were tired.

Just got back, echo a lot said already on here.
- great turnout, shame it was a lacklustre performance for them
- first half we were pressed hard, created little, missed Anderson and Lavery like you can't believe
- Gabriel was out of position for their first goal, Forest deserved the first half lead
- second half improved, but failed to capitalise on some good possession from Bowler and Mitchell
- TJJ out of his depth I'm afraid. He is weak under challenges and relies far to much on the ref's whistle. His lazy run and poor shielding of the ball
(it was right in front of me) allowed them to hump the ball forward and score. We're basically nurturing him for Arsenal with our game time and appear to get nothing back from him unlike Simms from last year I'm afraid
- Last 10 minutes was frustrating as hell. I'm all for re-cycling the ball England style, but the Forrest fans must have felt comfortable watching us playing the clock down sideways/backwards when we were losing 2-1.
- not good enough today lads it saddens me to say, nothing on the Bournemouth second half performance from earlier in the season
- roll on Wednesday

Good post. Your point about Anderson is the best point you make.

Hey Alf. Are you still in Amsterdam?

Do you fancy meeting up to watch the Nobbers game? I don’t mind travelling from Rotterdam

Hey mate! Funny story I’m in the Yukon now 🙈 I may move back to Holland in a year depending how I feel, just got a job opportunity I couldn’t turn down. Gutted you’re finally around to meet up as well!

Oh well, never mind. Sounds like a great place to be, enjoy. I’m hoping to move back to UK early next year.

Just been chatting about our 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest, football in general and different playing tactics (as well as a few other less interesting subjects) over a drink or three with some old geezer in some back-street taverna.

The old chap insisted that (and I quote) "If a football is passed backwards then it must have been passed forward before" - then adding to further emphasise his point - "yer silly old piffed-up Lancy **"

I told him that I was Born_in_the_Fifties and that I was of an average height, he said that his name was Isaac Newton and that he'd hated Nottingham Forest for donkeys' years.

I walked off into the night thinking that these silly old cunts talk a lot of sense, more often than not!

Hic🙂🧡
