Nottingham Forest v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 16.10.21

Not a great performance and the better team won.

Disappointing, but if we are being charitable, there's a lot of injuries affecting preparation and formation.

5 important first teamers not starting. Lost Keshi and Sterling as well as Maxi and Lavery, and Dougall on the bench. 2-1 defeat away to the in form team in those circumstances is not a disgrace. They've had more comfortable wins in recent games.

Nothing to do with injuries. Whoever the players the first pass in all of their minds is backwards, even when we are losing. For f***s sake trying moving forwards just for once.

Reminds me of us around 2008, we were so close to being a top half Championship side then Charlie arrived and the rest is history.

We had more of the ball late on mainly because forest sat back and defended what they had.

They looked far better on the ball for most of it.

When we get into good positions the lack of a killer ball is meaning moves we do have often come to nothing.

I don't have an issue with how we play at all, the thing that is missing isn't a change in style it's that 1 or 2 creative players who would have broke forest down today and got us a point or maybe all 3. We don't have them yet. Let's remember though, we are a work in progress.

We weren’t bad. We did get sloppy at the end and wasted so much of our own time with passes in and around our own box Forest must have thought it was their Birthday. We repeatedly bottle out of making the killer ball and as such no one has anything to run on to and it’s quite easy for the opposition to defend. Why TJJ gets a start I honestly can’t fathom it. I’m beginning to wonder whether there is a promise of playing him for so many minutes or something. It’s awful to say it but I hope he gets an injury which keeps him out of the squad as he brings absolutely nothing, and isn’t even working hard for the team when he is on the pitch. Anderson, Mitchell, Dale, Carey even Garbutt playing further up the pitch must offer a better option ?!

We’re a decent Championship team and with a couple of signings and better luck on the injury front we’re a good Championship team capable of holding our own in the top half.

Am I the only one who doesn't think we were that bad? Can't argue with the result but I don't think we played as woefully as being made out. With a major injury crisis I don't think we seemed that out of the game, a win for Forest was the fairest result but if it had ended in a draw I don't think it would have been unfair all things considered.

All in all not that bad, certainly not a good performance but not terrible IMO.

Bad day at the office ,forest deserve their win , onto the next game, looking forward to an evening in reading, well watching the match anyway, not reading itself. Although I've never seen us win there. !

Good post and yes, I get frustrated with TJJ as well. But he gets picked and that's that. My disappointment is with Carey. He didn't sound like he did much to help. Maybe those who watched it can be helpful here.

The in form team who hadn’t won at home, until today. I don’t accept the argument about players missing as Critchley has said on numerous occasions it’s a squad game and we have a strong squad with good players waiting for a chance, he says. No matter who plays, as I said earlier, the first thing in their minds is backwards, no matter if we are winning or losing, it’s backwards, backwards, backwards. Get the bloody ball in the box and see what happens, there is no urgency about any one of them. A complete change of mind set is required.

Hard to offer much on that. Better second half but still failing to create many if any chances. Positives not many, negatives - well I've';said it before, not all loans work out and TJJ after 12 games + the cup ones looks miles out of his depth. Was absolutely shocking today. He might look good in training but when it comes to the big boys game on the pitch he's been found wanting again. Said on simonized tem news thread that playing four forwards none who are known for their tracking back seemed an odd choice. I think that proved to be the case.

The passing was slow to get going at times and a lot misplaced, some nearly costly.

The lack of chances coming from lack of killer ball and final pass we've seen many times.

Missing players yes but similar problems remain.

Some good moments but wasteful or safe and not the know how to break down a good defence.

I thought we would lose to forest, even without our injuries. I wish they'd held on to Houghton till after we played them! Of the next 3 games I thought this would be the toughest one given forest's up turn in form.

We're doing okay, still 7 points off the bottom 3 and 5 points off the playoffs - I still think mid table would be an incredible result for us this season, given how much everyone wrote us off before a ball had been kicked, and staying out of the bottom 3 would still be amazing!!

I hope we can get something off Reading at least and maybe punt for the win. TJJ needs to get the fuck out of whole squad nevermind the first 11! And I'm annoyed we didn't see Dale, hoping he can at least come off the bench in midweek, ready for him to terrorise the Nobbers on Saturday.

I disagree and I agree. The backpassing and the stuff across the back annoys me enormously! But, Critch got us promoted and he's got us playing well. Count to three and breathe.

Probably should have been a pen also today.

Maybe because of Jules previous easy falls he didn't buy it the ref.

I feel sorry for the fans that went and had to endure that abject performance.
It wasn't that bad, away at the form side I would have been pleased with a point. There was plenty of effort but the final pass and a bit of guile were missing.
Slightly disappointing but wouldn't describe it as abject.

He never got in the game at all. Having said that we are losing 2-1 with ten minutes or so to go and we were continually playing it around and across the back line and on a few occasions they caught is in possession. I'm not necessarily saying lump it forward but players need to be aware of what's happening around them. It sounds daft but moves were breaking down on the edge of OUR own box. Way too much indecision, poor decision making, and poor passing.

He got us promoted yes, from league one. This is a higher level which requires, at times, a different way of playing. He seems to think that what was effective last season will work again this season, with, virtually, the same players. Sometimes it will, other times it won’t, but we seem unable to adapt during a game. When things aren’t going your way, change them. And I don’t necessarily mean personnel, just tactics.
