Just thought this would be interesting. Discussion tends to become really heated and people like me and others go on and write long posts which probably put people off.

I'm not going to post owt on this thread. I'm literally just intrigued as to what the consensus is...

Polls are obviously flawed and don't account for complexity but there not exactly a shortage of complex debate elsewhere on here!

I like Boris, but tbh, I could have done a better job of handling this myself. With better ideas to keep deaths to a Japan level minimum and the economy ticking over.

Highest death count in Europe. Slowest reaction time. Slowest recovery to normal. Expected biggest financial hit.

And they lied to us about face masks.

Mistakes have been made, like other countries. Some things have been done well. We’re dealing with something that hasn’t been seen before and, all told it’s been difficult for everyone concerned.
but as everything in this Country, people will whine, bitch and moan whilst sat on their backsides doing nothing!
all In all I think a good job has been done and lessons will be learnt, but you’ll always get the people who’ll put a political slant on anything to suit their own agenda whilst completely overlooking what’s going on.
I think the way Stergeon has behaved is utterly childish.

to be honest whatever your opinion of the government strategies ,the population has to take there fair share of blame.Just on my street I have seen all sorts of rule breaking going from sat night partys to carers visiting relations, probably 60/70% of the houses have had people visiting.
Also the fact that the uk has one of the highest population densities in europe has to have had a bearing on infection rates

I don't see any harm in a poll to get a sense of how the balance of opinion looks TBH. I suspect that those who don't like it much will predominatly favour the minority position😆😂🤣

To answer this question fully we need to see what the next few weeks bring now every man and his dog have been let of the leash.

I voted neither good nor bad. Initially I thought the Government was doing well, but they've lost their way several times since.

I know they're politicians, but more honesty and less spin would be good.

Everything is easier with hindsight, so yes pretty pointless...
Of course the country should be fully prepared at all times for any eventuality...however in the real world things don’t happen/work like that...

Of course you are and you can know that by reading their posts.

As I said, I would imagine there's a proportion of posters who have a view (either way) who are likely put off by the 'rough and tumble' of a discussion thread, whether it's being shouted down by some the more 'certain' or acerbic posters (of any political persuasion) or bored to death by people who waffle on like myself, or even intimidated by people who know a lot more than them.

I think I've put balanced and fair options on and not engaged in any of the dreaded 'points scoring' - I'm genuinely intrigued to see where the balance of opinion lies and even suggested that a poll is clearly a very blunt instrument and crude measure. It might be that people are largely behind the government, it might not. I don't know.

I'm not sure there's a 'point' to owt that gets posted on AVFTT. It's just noughts and ones floating about in the ether. (as, indeed are we)

Yes, you could argue that there's no point judging the government, but in that case, lets delete all the discussion about it as well!

Some very good, some bad. Unfortunately they were slow and seemed uninterested at the start, and by they time they woke up to it a lot of damage was done, because the virus is very unforgiving of mistakes.
If we manage to come out of lockdown without total carnage in the economy then fair play to them though.

Yes, AVFTT is surely (for most of us) just light entertainment for when we have gaps in between more important "life stuff" going on?

In what way do you think Sturgeon has been childish?

What a surprise

4 Admitted there WOULD be a border down the Irish Sea, after a year claiming there wouldn't

5 Said its ok for a child-minder to come into contact with your kids, as long as you "open a window"

7 Announced £2bn investment, so we could use public transport again

8 Told us it's our "civic duty" to avoid using public transport

9 Announced the PM would make a speech on Sunday, cos it had to be implemented Monday

10 Then, when challenged, said they meant Wednesday

11 Then said we must go to work

12 Then said we must not travel to work

13 Then said it was all explained in the published guidelines

14 Then had it pointed out to them in parliament that they hadn't published guidelines

15 Blamed the public for not understanding the new rules

16 Then went on TV to explain the rules, got them wrong, and had to be corrected by Piers Morgan

17 Then went to parliament to explain the rules, STILL got them wrong, and had to be corrected by the opposition

18 Said we should wear facemasks

19 Then said we shouldn't wear facemasks

20 Then said - again - we should wear facemasks

21 Clapped for NHS workers

22 Then introduced a 55% increase in the fee foreign staff pay to work for the NHS

26 Then said doctors were brave, but teachers weren't

27 Then had to watch as doctors said the teachers were right, and it wasn't safe to open schools

28 Then announced tests for kids but not for teachers

29 Then had to have it explained on live TV that infected teachers can still infect kids

30 Scored 0% in a French poll of which govt was doing best for its people

31 Dropped 45 net approval points in UK opinion polling

All of this was just LAST WEEK, but yeah. Doing a great job

You come on here, stating your facts. That’s very mean to the government and I fear you’re going to be accused of political point scoring very, very soon.

I still stand by my view utterly pointless people can't answer a question without their political persuasion being brought into it and that's on both sides.
Left are all going to put awful
Right any other from poor upwards it achieves a big fat sod all.
I didn't put awful. Still poor though and Hancock's crass performance on Friday shows it's ongoing.

Voted Tory.Infact I always hsve. They have been poor,so have the experts in WHO,PHE and so on. Maybe its due to a new virus. If Labour were in charge I would be very worried,if still alive.

I don’t think any thread is pointless if it isn’t abusive 👍
Voted Tory once and Labour 5 times. That was irrelevant when casting my vote which I tried to cast subjectively.
No idea who I’ll vote for next time by the way.

What does anything achieve on here? I was curious as to the perception of the board. I'm not trying to prove or achieve anything.

The government themselves admit they are making mistakes...but are they genuine mistakes or something more sinister?
The only thing they've got right was to protect workers wages.

Hand on heart..3 out of 10. Poor.

It's because you can't face the truth.

"If Labour were in-charge I would be very worried, if still alive"

I'll refrain from calling you a total noggin and give you an opportunity to explain how you come to that conclusion. If I'm totally honest, you write like someone who would need the Labour Party if only for self preservation.

Brilliant response! A few militant left wingers on here and you think that's the truth.I tend to think the truth is that Labours extreme left wing led by Corbyn and his lack of leadership over Brexit meant that Labour had no chance at the last election. That's the truth that you can't accept.

If you believe that... then you really don't know how politics works in this country.

Nope, t's just that you are so fucked up over it. Mind full of hatred. No sense of reason. Like I said before, I seriously think you'd rather be rid of the gov't than the virus.

What’s that got to do with the price of fish? The question is “how well is the current government coping with Covid-19 crisis?” Not a hypothetical one.

This thread is about the govt’s response to covid and you’re trying to derail it by rattling on about Corbyn, Labour and Brexit. Pure political point scoring yet again, you should be ashamed.

It’s hardly the fault of NHS workers if they passed on the virus without having symptoms.
That’s why I did not criticise the NHS front line carers, of course. You might have thought the hospital managers might have considered these two factors in their risk assessments though? Asymptomatic infectiousness was known to be a risk early on. I am afraid it all comes back to the lack of capacity for routine testing for staff and patients again. Edit: Not their fault of course; just another systemic gap.
