Manager Shortlist

He may be a technical bore but Dyche has all the credentials to boost us up to the top half of the table I feel.
Depends what you want from us going forward I guess, in terms of style of play / results etc.
Think he would get us to the Prem if given a few seasons

In isolation, I'd imagine that it is unlikely that a manager of a Championship club would leave to become an assistant elsewhere.

Looking at this move specifically, we have a manager of a smaller Championship club moving to work with a very respected figure in the game, a man that he has previously worked under, work which probably got him his opportunity with us.

That's before we even compare his remuneration as Blackpool manager and Villa assistant, I couldn't tell you what he earned at Blackpool or what he will earn at Villa but I'd be struggling to believe that he's taking a pay cut.

I have no problem with Critchley, I didn't think he was good as some on here suggested when we were winning and I certainly didn't think he was a bad as some suggested after a few bad results, far better personnel have left us in the past and plenty more will do so in the future.
So no one then?

Not much on that list gets the blood flowing. Come on Simon go with a bang get Bielsa. Or Di Canio. Get someone that fires people up and makes Sky want to televise our games. Challinor Mellon Appleton etc good grief.

Whoever we get needs to have the same long term vision as the club and plays a style of football that suites the players we have. I would like to see a quick selection so that we can focus on recruiting and pre-season.

I didn't realise it was a test.

I'm just not as disappointed/surprised as others seem to be, I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd taken the Sheff Utd or others jobs, Grayson left us to go down a division it happens.

Thanks for my homework for the night, I'm off to look for an answer to your question.

Just spoke to a mate of mine who knows Beale who left Villa for QPR, he said Beale was on 750k a year as villa assistant so you can imagine Critch has been offered that if not more, no wonder he left 🤑

It's not a test, but it's embarrassing for the club, it never happens, connections mean nothing, he's left to put the cones out at a middling (at best) PL club.

Names mentioned I would go for Tony Mowbray, vast Championship experience, did a good job under ridiculous expectations at T'Rovers, brought several youth players successfully into the first team and is at an age where he wouldn't piss off and leave us in the lurch.

Ian Evatt for me is who I would want over all others.
Darren Moore is a great shout too and I know there's been a couple mocking but the Emma Hayes shout is also a really intriguing one. It's going to happen somewhere and I've always been impressed with hearing her speak and her coaching credentials are very good too. Besides she would be much more preferable than some anti football dinosaur like Grayson or Warnock and the like.

Fair enough but if that's the case, is it embarrassing for the club or for Critchley ?

He obviously saw it as a good move for himself but I wouldn't know how much of that was down to salary or if he was of the opinion that he wasn't being backed enough to take us further.

Can you remember the last time a Championship manager left a club to become an assistant manager?

It's ** embarrassing.
Embarrassing? Not really. Huge pay rise. Simples. And gets to coach Coutinho, Buendia, McGinn, Mings, Ings, Chukwuemeka etc. In luxury surroundings. And not have to do TV etc. I think it suits him. It tells us about Critch, not our club leadership.

When Sadler said there would be limited funds for next season, though, it felt uncomfortable to me, Critch could have felt his task would be a tough one. 30m for buildings but nowt for the squad. He may have gone Villa regardless but how much incentive was there to stay?

Your last paragraph is embarrassing…..best check how much the owner has already put in….Simon is in my opinion building for the future when the likes of me are probably long gone….but even six foot under still Tangerine.
Sums up the world we now live in where patience is some kind of sin.

Embarrassing? I'm just commenting on something Sadler said himself about squad funding, pal. Sort your thinking out.

So why sign a five year contract if you don't want to back yourself?

Warburton
Mowbray
Duncan Ferguson- wild card I know

Believe any of these could do a job ,maybe Charlie as assistant- however not sure if he would be too Billy big balls in which case big Dunc would get his respect
