Rosenior to meet Rooney

Well at least he's doing it the right way!

Derby County assistant Liam Rosenior will speak to boss Wayne Rooney before becoming the new manager of Blackpool.

Rosenior will be the next Blackpool manager and an announcement is due soon, but it has been reported that the former full-back wants to speak to Rooney before leaving. It is unclear what Rosenior wants to get out of a conversation with Rooney, but it is unlikely he will have his mind changed as the move to Blackpool seems all but done and dusted.

It is unclear what the future holds for Rooney himself, though it is said that both Chris Kirchner and Mike Ashley would want him to stay on as manager if either party completes a takeover of the club. It has been made clear that Rooney would stay under Kirchner, though the manager's position on working under Ashley is unknown.

After initially joining Derby as a first team coach under Phillip Cocu in 2019, Rosenior became assistant manager when Rooney took over the hotseat the following year. The timing of his exit may not go down well with Derby's future uncertain, but being a manager outright in the Championship is a difficult opportunity for anybody to turn down.

If a takeover is completed and Rooney does stay at the club, first team development coach Justin Walker could step up to become Rooney's assistant. He could also lean on someone like 36-year-old Phil Bardsley, who he is targeting as a player but could also be trusted as a lieutenant.

That's great but we just want the official announcement done so we can move on and get players signed, get people knowing who is in charge and get some excitement and certainty. Will probably help with sales too to know who's in charge....

Couldn't he have rang him and get cracking and meet him when he's back, if he's definitely coming then no point waiting as we're behind.

Hope Rooney doesn’t say he is leaving Derby (he should they can’t afford his wages) and Rosenior in line for the job

Hopefully we don't get Rooney
Why not 🤷 did you see how derby played last year with no funds , how he got the best from the youngsters , but more luck and less I jury’s derby would of survived , I thought he did wonders , I think he get our crowd going , regardless what he had done outside of football , it’s the football we are only interested in , well I am lol

Fair point

Perhaps he respects Rooney’s opinion and just needs reassurance from someone he respects that he’s making the right decision.
Needs reassurance!!! He going to be Manager of a Championship club..really I doubt that be the case..well hopefully not..

Have you never consulted anyone close about a new job or whatever if you have a chance of what may or may not be a good move? For all we know he may have other irons in the fire. Although we think anyone in their right mind would jump at the chance , that’s not necessarily everyone else’s opinion. There are other clubs in the Championship, some even looking for managers.

Yes but as it was my wife I didn't have to wait, I do wonder if there's a sniff of the Derby job, even though it's in League 1. He might have some loyalty, unlike some.

We don't know if this is true for a start or what's going on.

If it's happening announce it.

There's no other movement in betting is there so seems done.

But you'd think with the importance of getting our summer going we'd want him working ASAP.

In all my lifetime I’ve never heard of a coach/manager being offered a job (a promotion/step up) and yet he wants to go speak to his old boss. 🤔

I really don’t get it. Can he not just have. A phone conversation with him. What’s all this face to face shite. Surely it’s nonsense and it’s a Derby county finance problem.

We don't know if its true or whats to be gained, maybe he's already accepted behind the scenes and just wanted to see Wayne first before it's announced. I don't know, doesn't make much sense. The club would want it announced ASAP.
