Tom Ince...an apology....

It’s still a sad pathetic song sung by idiots. Can half understand kids singing it but grown men. How embarrassing.
I know it’s just awful…. So unbecoming…. I was only saying the same to my friend Tarquin over a glass of Pimms and Lemonade after the game.

Oh well done. Congratulations. Preston still sung it to piss of Blackpool FC. Couldn’t give a shit about Leeds.

Again the point is abusing an ex player who didn’t really do anything wrong. It’s pathetic and thick.
Thanks, but the point is… (drum roll)

He did!!

He completely changed his whole demeanour and attitude when his dad came and I know for sure via players at the time that this was the case, but even without that it was clear to see with your own eyes. Do you also remember Barnsley away by the tunnel with fans ? Then you had him acting like Willy Fogg to get a new Club. Granted we had Karly in charge but on the pitch he was a tool when his dad came.

Great player at the time, under Holloway he was brilliant and scored in the play-off final, but let’s not rewrite history on what he was like for 12 months or so.

Oh he reacted to some fans giving him abuse. Big deal. Let’s ignore everything else he did. Unfortunately it’s no surprise, generally football fans are an angry bunch who let out their frustrations at football matches.

You seem pretty angry about football fans letting out your frustrations on a message board.

Blood, if you were sat next to an opposing fan who was abusing Blackpool players would you pile in? Or if you were sat next to Tom Ince would you keep your opinions to yourself?
He’d probably tell him what a fantastic player he was and that any chants directed to him were out of order and ask for an autograph

Either that or he’d sit there in silence gravying his undies praying to god that neither Paul Ince or “ wickle” Tom would recognise him for shouting abuse when he was in a crowd

Maybe we do need a Chant Committee to pass judgement on which chants meet the acceptable criteria?

“Welcome to the meeting chaps and chapessessess, and the first item on tonight’s agenda is - ‘Your Support Is ** Shit’”

“We had a complainant in earlier this week from a Malcolm Bottomley, who feels concerned that the chant might (on occasion), not be a strict representation of the facts and has questioned whether the chant ought to be utilised more sparingly”

😮
Has any team ever been to Bloomfield Rd and that chant not be sung?

The Inces are family friends of someone I know well. Tom/Thomas started out a good lad. He's been dogged by his old man trying to vicariously reignite the glory years for most of his career. I reckon that if a better influence had got hold of him early on his career would not have followed the same trajectory. Imagine having your dad follow you round like that when you're grown man?

Whilst the inappropriate chant committee is in session, we really could do with some new, more enlightened, words for the Lancashire is wonderful song. It's full of....

I used to play football against Tom Ince in Portugal and they were a nice family. Therefore I’ll judge my viewpoint on real life; not following the crowd and pretending to be Danny Dyer like a few on here.

On behalf of all reasonable Seasiders, please accept our apologies for the unacceptable and embarrassing chanting, targeted at you today....

You did us proud when you wore tangerine and I for one do not understand the vitriol aimed at you.
I wish he played for us has bags of talent still. Unfortunately those chants yesterday were a disgrace and sums up some of the mindless idiots that follow us.

I wonder what happened to turn them into such a pair of knobs then?

Probably the abuse they received from Blackpool fans? Surely not…
I doubt it…

I’ve heard a couple of interviews with ex-players who thought Ince Senior was a complete clown. Basically looked down on players who he considered weren’t ‘up to his standards’ … I wonder if that rubbed off on young Tom as he certainly displayed those characteristics in his latter days at Blackpool and since.

You only have to read the section in Foggy’s book about Ince Senior to realise he’s an absolute whopper of the highest order.

Most people behave reasonably in polite company, so it sounds like you’ve not really seen their true colours.

Yet not only was it aimed at a great ex-player, it also played on regional stereotyping and as was potentially hurtful to the good (non-stealing) folks of Liverpool….
I know , how wrong but very funny at the time . I am sure David took it the right way and had a laugh about it , hope so anyway. It was just such a daft chant . In my opinion everyone should be able to take a joke at their expense but simply chanting that someone is a C@nt is not clever .

His dad set the team up each week around young Tom. He started every chuffing game and I can‘t ever recall him being substituted. Holloway got the best out of Tom his career went down hill once Pince took over.

It is clever though and really that's the beauty of it...

Firstly, it definitely winds the knackers off the player and his dad... (which is a clear benefit to us)

Secondly it really is just funny.... See the style of humour changes over the years and in a modern world / game, where eberything has become so sanitised, the collective chanting of the word (dare I say it) .... ** ... is absolutely hilarious..... It's made even more hilarious by the fact that his dad (as well as half of our aging supporters) are so ridiculously overly protective of 'our Thomas'...

You really couldn't come up with a funnier and more appropriate chant.... It really fits the circumstances like a glove IMHO.

Simple abuse directed at a player I always find disappointing . I do love something well thought out and witty . Every player is fair game for a piss take but straightforward abuse doesn’t do it for me . If those chanting had a brain cell between them we might get some genuine entertainment 🤔
Just my honest opinion.

But that's the beauty of it... The straightforwardness of it... It just hits the perfect spot.... It just sits right on that line of acceptability like all great comedy.... It perfectly highlights and brings out the worst in the comedic nature of the Ince Twin's relationship.

I mean I suppose there might be a comedy song someone could do about his dad stalking him, but is it too much effort for the odd occasion when we play them.. Especially when the ** song managed to encapsulate everything necessary in a few simplistic, but powerful words.

Maybe if some of the oldies, just dropped a small amount of their judgemental and generally miserable approach to life and just for a few hours on a Saturday, let themselves go and immersed themselves in a small moment or two of childish stupidity, the world might just be a much better place for all of us?

Yes we all want our children hearing that. What a happy place it would be hearing the word ** being repeated by kids.

Fully paid up member of the Childish Stupidity Club 😂

That’s what being a parent is all about. Perhaps that’s where it’s going wrong for many. I guess you haven’t got any which you are acting like a child yourself?
I've got four of them .... We're one of those kind of families who use bad language I'm afraid ...

It's quite an interesting point this by the way.... I think this strange aversion to swearing (and particularly #whispers# swearing in front of the children) is limited to a particular section of society - The aspiring middle classes and the middle classes... I presume that somewhere in the annals of history folk must have thought that by dropping the swearing it would make them 'proper posh like, just like all of those gentry folk'..

The trouble is that those 'gentry folk' swear like ** troopers just like the rest of us gutter dwellers.

Do you not think playing with inferior quality players might have had an impact too?

The swearing doesn’t bother me a sad as it was. It’s simply abusing former players who gave Blackpool fans some good memories. It’s nothing more than sad pathetic people high fiving each other thinking they’re brilliant.

So if the swearing doesn't bother you...Then why did you raise it as an issue?

First you spend several hours over the course of two days telling us all that the song is "A knobber song" before subsequently confirming that "it doesn't matter anyway, whether it's a knobber song or not"

Then you highlight the fact that the terrible swearing might corrupt all our children and doom them to a life of eternal damnation in the bowels of the earth, before going on to then say that you aren't actually bothered about the swearing either.

Anyway surely it's fine... We've reached a natural conclusion in the discussion...

You don't like the chant, because you have a sense of affection for Tom and you feel that the chant is unfair and a lacks a bit of class..... That's a valid perspective and I can understand why someone might feel that way. 👍

By way of contrast...

I think Tom and his Dad acted like a pair of dicks in the run up to leaving our Club and I don't care at all and I find the chant and boos rather amusing.

It's OK... We disagree...That's all👍

Will agree to disagree then. Just think it reflects on the club badly and makes us look pretty small time. If this thread is anything to go by, I think the majority feel the same.

It’s not about a love in. It’s about respecting former BFC players.
Why do we need to 'respect former BFC Players' though? I mean when did that come in?

We've pretty much ribbed ex-players for the entirety of my time supporting the Club... I can understand you'd respect them once retired and what have you, but when they are on the opposing team... ?
