What Secondary School did you go to?

Blackpool Grammar from 72
Didn't it become Blackpool Collegiate Grammar in '72? I have a memory of having the option (well, my parents did), of Arnold or Blackpool Grammar having passed the 11+ in 1971 but being told that the latter would be joining with Collegiate the following year.

Another Arnold boy till 1970-- hated it wished I'd gone to the grammar only went because Sir Jimmy had

Highfield High. Left in 1999. Some bizarre goings on during my time there. Music teacher killed himself after accusations of him having inappropriate relations with a female pupil. Headmaster had a sex change shortly after I left. Fair play to her
Blackpool Grammar School.

Blackpool Grammar.
It's obvious from the poor standard of posting that there are very few ex Blackpool Grammar School boys and girls on here. 😉

I just missed the Saturday morning regime. I joined in '71, left in '78.
Would you have been there when Peter Purves was busy being expelled?
Missed PP I'm afraid. Saturday morning school stopped in 1967 the year after I left. I always assumed it was in place to stop
all the borders running amock at the weekends. From memory I think we got longer Easter and summer holidays to compensate.

Mr.Minton?

Highfield centre of excellance - 77 to 81.
great days. Lots of sport , lots of ”socialising” and a bit of education thrown in.
you would end up bumping in to half the teaching staff in The Dunes, once u were 16+.

BGS, anyone remember staff members Dr. Benson, Ernie Harrison, Bill Breeze, Joe Grindrod, Don Murdoch, Jack Bowman from the glorious fifties.

Arnold for me too. Bloody CCF and Saturday mornings.
Arnold too...must have been in the same era...Saturday morning school finished in 66 I think but they just added more hours on the week...and as for effing CCF...hated the place...no happy memories whatsoever...except in the juniors when Sir Jimmy took the occasional class and actually did some one offs coaching of our football team...Seniors ...it was Rugby Union..and I loved Blackpool Borough in those early days😉 but saw the light and became BFC.

For the record...seniors...left 68 ( at 17) to go to Liverpool Uni...but skipped year 4 in the Seniors as we were supposedly the bright fast stream...if only😉

Post Edit..our years Rugby team ( under 12s ) was possibly the worst ever....lost every game we played including ( god forbid) against non grammar schools. Also Remember playing Stonyhurst who ( had line out calls😳) thumped us around 76 0.
In fact we only scored three points all season...my claim to fame( sic) was I scored them.Always embarrasing when Holgate had to read out the scores at assembly.I got booted off the team for refusing to run the line when injured one saturday...probably explains why I never made monitor let alone prefect...or it might relate to a cigarette incident and a ** of a French teacher post O Levels at Jodrell Bank...my only caning at school and on a Saturday when post O Levels you were exempt school that morning.

St Josephs.....66-72.
Me too and of course was a member of Layton House. Used to go to get the bus by walking down Layton Road and past Layton Rec but didn't realise the significance of this from a BFC historical view.
The guy who started Holy Joe's was buried so his grave was facing the school so very much a community feel to the place even now.
