The worst thing about last night was…

We all knew it was coming.

It’s our clsssic dogshit away performance. Start fairly brightly, couple of good situations wasted, start losing the ball cheaply, stop winning 2nd balls, create our own problems, look disinterested & then resort to pumping alehouse balls to strikers with nobody around them.

Add Leyton Orient to Lincoln, Wycombe, Cambridge, Burton, Port Vale, Cheltenham, Stevenage. People think we’re inconsistent but these have all been pretty much the same performances. Last night was just like Stevenage minus their directness.

When you couple the above with a Head Coach entrenched in a formation so badly that Matty Virtue has played right wing back & Callum Connolly is left centre half of a back 3 then you’ve got problems. The fact he’s been unable to change this approach is a 🚩

The substitutes made the team weaker which is completely bizarre chasing a game and also on the Head Coach.

We can talk about Tranmere “is the best place for Apter’s development” but there’s been at least 5 games since January where we could have brought him on with 30 mins to go to help US, especially when Dembele isn’t on it or tiring. It’s a like for like change and we know NC loves them.

That aside, we’ve got 11 games left and this is now the time to start prepping the squad for next season and clearing out some of the utter dross we have playing for us (even though we gave one of these a contract till 2026 back in December). If you can’t stay fit, if you’ve got the heart of pea or if you struggle to play football see you fuckin later. Get a few of the Academy lads involved cos I’m fucked if I can be arsed watching Matty Virtue breakthrough into a regular starting spot (6th season lucky).

Marv’s our best defender he’ll be off elsewhere for a better deal.

Connolly? His pace is decreasing by the days and when you didn’t have much he now looks like he’s running on the travelator on the Gladiators. I’m not actually ruling out that NC is picking him to activate him getting a new contract offer because I’m lost at why there would be any other reason, bar for him liking someone getting a customary yellow for a body check or being on the floor for a 1/4 of 90 mins. Casey missing makes it even stranger?

I’m not going to bother going through the rest of the squad but there’s some garbage & after Sadler’s interview I think it’s time that the recruitment and the Head Coach start earning their dough, as he’s trusting them with his lack of footballing acumen.

Most frustratingly, it wouldn’t have took that much to be right up there this season which is on par with our shitty short corners. Pack them in immediately 🙃

Wouldn't have taken much to stay up last season either. We're investing more money at this level than we have prior ownership. But the manager and the quality of players here and brought in aren't good enough.

Marv is our best defender and worst passer of the ball. Unless there is no one within 10 yards of him, he’s a liability with the ball at his feet.

Please Critch, just tell him to lump it forward to the wing in future. I know it probably gives possession away, however there’s a chance it drops into space for our pacy wide men or willing runners.
Compared to the inevitable panic, misplaced pass or goal given away that has to be statistically optimal for him?

The worst thing about last night was that I gave up a brilliant London pub crawl to watch that shite, I’m done now not going to Northampton. Like they say on dragons den, “I’m out!”

I watched it in the Canary Isles last night having decided after Stevenage I couldn't take it anymore. 8 away games gone to,1 win. Booked 2 weeks away.
Cheered like a demented "schoolboy" on Sat ,told the missus I,d made a big mistake!! UTMP and wished I hadn't "p#ssed off"
Watched a repeat of the turgid poo I have witnessed going away with the bonus of Connelly playing last night and thanked the Good Lord I,d booked a holiday.
This shouldn't be the "lot" of an ordinary Pool fan who lives to see us play exciting "roller coaster" footy .
Let's hope Saturday isn't another "rinse and repeat" UTMP!!

Listening to Critchley talking about how much we miss Lavery when he's not playing, fully expect him to get another deal and the. effectively we're stuck with the same forwards!

AK, it is easy to say we all knew what was coming after the event, when in fact I reckon a few on here (myself included) expected a good follow up to Saturday’s result when squad morale must have been sky high.
Quite a few expected us to lose against Bolton, but how wrong were they?
The fact of the matter is I don’t think any game in this league is predictable mate as there seems to be shock results every weekend and the only team that appears to be running on all four cylinders (AT THE MOMENT) is Portsmouth.

We have lost lots of away games in exactly the same way against exactly the same type of teams and have often had a great result and backed it up with a shite one.

So yep it was pretty easy to know it was coming, all they had to do was see out our initial first 10 mins, just like Lincoln, Stevenage, Port Vale etc. soak up our inability to adapt mid-game and get a bit physical and in and around us and we’d roll over.

You might not agree with the above but the eyes don’t lie.

Unfortunately your right.

After Tuesday night I could see us not winning another game all season.

I went on Tuesday as was working in London. The heart was hoping for a follow up to the Bolton game, the head knew what AK describes in the OP.
Depressingly familiar. We’re so mentally weak when we go behind, and just never look like turning it round (Bolton game excepted).
I’m not for changing the manager, but his team selections are hard to fathom. One the pluses of his first tenure is that he took a pragmatic approach once it was obvious his preferred formation wasn’t working. Which makes this seasons stubbornness even more baffling.

It's madness when you think about it. He's happy getting Husband and Pennington clogging long diagonal balls yet for some reason Marv is the one that plays it on the deck. I blame midfield really, they hardly ever find space and are incapable of breaking the opposition press playing football. Central midfield has been a weakness for a while, I was hoping Byers would help with that but he was just as culpable on Tuesday.
