Just back

Well not quite, I stopped off for a celebratory Chinese takeaway on the way back to Wirral, but that has now gone south.
First half we were pretty dire apart from some great defending from Marv and Dembele absolutely threading a needle with that strike for the goal. Way too much backwards and sideways again and fans around me not too happy.
Shrewsbury offered very little. I think had they tried to overload us down the wings it could have been a different result. CJ in particular was nowhere in the game. How can Gabriel not be starting?

Second half started not much different and Critchley was attracting a bit of flak. We slowly got a grip in midfield though, with Byers, Coulson and the little magician outstanding. His work for the second happened right in front of me as he collected the ball, sent two of their defenders for a pie and stuck to ball bang on the excellent Coulson's head. After that we could have pushed on for a third, the Shrews were done.

Real celebrations and passion from some of the team at the end, particularly Byers, he is a serious find. Critchley was off down the tunnel pretty sharpish.

Looking back, 9 points from those four games is a good haul but now it's on to next Saturday, a big crowd hopefully and another must win vs Pompey.

It's the hope that kills you!

I would not call Byers a find. He is an experienced Championship footballer who still has something to prove. Same with Coulson. They are exactly the type of players we should have permanently, not those from Kings Lynn etc. Evatt, Vaughan, and Crainey all came from the same origins.

Personally still not convinced by Byers
I'm still not convinced by the snake Critchley, it's about time he was left in no uncertain terms what the supporters think about him. We would be a good team if he wasn't the manager. Never mentioned the support today either so I think it's brewing for a confrontation soon.

Glad we got 3 points, we were good enough but we were still pretty unconvincing for a lot of it and the formation is just so shit.

A minority of supporters I’d say

My point is he's a find for us, filling an obvious gap in our midfield capabilities. I'd be pushing to sign him permanently - captain material and a player capable of making us tick if Critchley allows him to play the way he clearly can.

Is it bollocks brewing for a confrontation, unless it's with about 10 people off here.

I'm not angry. Just sad, because that really was a very, very poor post, and unfortunately there have been a lot of them from you.
I don't really give a shit what you think Robbie to be honest, they are just my opinion, I don't have to Luke the manager, I think he's weak and I don't think having those opinions are poor. why pick on my posts eh? There ae plenty of others with the same view, at least I am consistent. I hope I am wrong, but I'm not going to be.

What are you basing this on?
Just that you can feel the mood change, he wasn't a lot of supporters first choice and you can see and hear the breakdown between manager and supporters even after an away win today. I would love him to succeed and ram my words down my throat, I will be the first to say I got it wrong, but I just can't warm to him or his tactics.

Confrontation was probably the wrong word, I can see it coming to a head, there is a disquiet from both sides and I thin it is growing, se my reply to one step beyond.
You don't like him and that's fine, but do you not think the man in the job should be backed? I can't stand Appleton, never could since his first time here, but I didn't continually run the bloke down while he got us relegated without seeming remotely arsed. The ** fraudulent dickhead.

I actually didn't mind Appleton, mad world.

It must be his passion, tactics, charisma and impressive trophy haul.
I didn't;t want him as manager, I have absolutely no idea why he was taken on, the craziest managerial decision I can recall at the club but he was never given a chance, so I kind of felt sorry for him and I thought we should have got rid of him in the November and we could of got Edwards. They decided to get the players he needed in January and some of the injuries returned and they sacked him and it was even worse. None of that was the managers fault. I just happen to think taking Critchley back was a mistake like taking Appleton and I want him to do well but I don't like his tactics or his personality.

Nah, Appleton always blames everything else as he stands arms crossed doing fuck all.

He was criticised to fuck in his first season.
Not by any fans in the ground, as there were none. I wonder what the reaction at Leyton Orient was like from the fans at full time, might have contributed to an attitude of "need to get this right before I give it the ol' fisting again" or "what do they fuckin' know".

Back to CJ
I was watching closely first half as he was down the right side where we were sitting. He looked like he had absolutely no idea what his role was or what he was supposed to do. He was mainly stood on the right touchline, usually near the half way line, neither showing for the ball or making runs in behind where he could be found.
He is not and never will be a right wing back. He is a wide left of a four and if I was manager I 'd tear up the coaching manual and say just knock it past your full back, kill him for pace and whip it in the box.
Compare Coulson with him today, lnking up with Husband and Joseph, making runs, getting on the ball.
In short play CJ as a left winger or leave him out, his contribution today was zero.

As GT says, Byers and Coulson had their best games to date while Dembele was involved from the off, unlike Tuesday where he was peripheral at best.

We were the better team all the way through, but at 1 0 you're always nervous for an against the run of play concession.
The second made the last 10 minutes so much more comfortable.

Good to see Rhodes back as well. His movement off the ball is something else.

I never felt in any danger that we would lose but I was worried we wouldn't score until we did and I then thought we won comfortably. Certainly not a classic, the sort of game we have lost 1-0 this season so a welcome result. We will need to play better on Saturday and after that we actually have quite a friendly run in apart from Derby away, you never know, but it's Critchley's tactics so let's just hope.

A win is always welcome but why are we dire against a team fourth from bottom? Losing hope is what kills you because hope is the oxygen of the soul

I thought Byers and Norburn worked very well together today. Norburn gets some stick on here but he creates space for others to prosper in
I just wish he wasn't so one footed. He has to do a mini pirouette to get the ball on his right foot facing in the right direction and it often results in him being closed down. Hence so many back passes. I do think there is a much better player in there though, the one we saw in his first few games. I would preferably see a three with Morgan in there too and blow out the three centre halves tactic.

Jesus Christ. That was in my opinion the perfect away performance. Grimmy hasn’t had anything to really do to.

First half was a typical game against a team in the bottom half. We pretty much nullified them for 40
Mins while not setting the world alight. But that is fine, we were level and looking comfortable. Even Marv realised he was a professional footballer and could pass the ball 10 yards to a team mate.

Our goal (as far as I could see from a day on the beers) fell nicely to Dembele, who placed it home. Perfect, 1-0 up away from home without getting out of second gear.

Second half, and sometimes I think it’s easy to lay into Crtich for being too defensive, but he was screaming at our players to get forward. He had a game plan, and away from home played it perfectly. The late goal first half certainly helped, but every single player on that pitch wanted it. Byers was exactly the player we all wanted but my MOM was Coulson. Looked to go forward, could
Have scored a few mins before he did, and looked the part at left wing back.

I am all for Critch clapping the fans and walking off. Let’s cut the fist pumps, knuckle down and win a few games in a row. The players are clearly up for it, let’s give the gaffer some credit for a professional away performance and go again next week.

Int this the man who backed the stains for too long?
So did most of this board and most of the ground, thousands still were at the bitter end, this 'our great struggle' isn't true for 99.99% of their tenure.

Also, people are allowed to change their minds.

And people are allowed to not like critchley, for what it’s worth I still want him here and think he could be successful but I understand why people think we might be best off with someone else.

He pushes my buttons too tbh. But then I can be very impatient and certain people get under my skin, for whatever reason. But i can’t stand his approach and his stubborness. That said, I hope he stumbles on the best team available, tweaks his approach to lead us to the play offs and proves me to be a clueless **.
