Blackpool v Fleetwood Official Matchday Thread 13.03.21

A better second half performance, and on another day one of those chances would have gone in, but a draw is a fair result.
Not the end of the world, a hard fought point, but we really, really need to better across the entire team if we're hoping to get out of this division.

Awaits the bed wetters calling everyone shite. Again.
Utter mediocrity. Simms and Yates worst front 2 I’ve seen for years.
There you go

Better on the ball today, just not clinical in chances and not enough quality with a final ball a few times too.

Hit the post, simms had a toe poke at the keeper from 2 yards, Yates had a couple of half chances 1st half. Lots of other half chances going close.

Had the best of it, just not got that finishing quality a playoff side needs.

The better side and some very close shaves/narrow misses, but Yates and Simms not done enough today. Signs of Dougall and CJ working their way back to form, and Kaikai looked better today, much more engaged. Virtue played pretty well too. We did a lot right but we have lacked potency in front of goal all season apart from Yates and he looked off it today.

Simms is a young lad learning his trade ans that's something I'm trying to keep in mind. But we need Madine back so badly, we just look toothless upfront. He would have been perfect today. Tuesday will be interesting, Burton are on fire right now. Also I think Turton had another good game today, made 2 outstanding tackles.

Based on the chances created, we should have scored at least 1. But the front 2 looked poor today. Simms was out of it second half, maybe he runs out of steam which is why NC has been subbing him. Worst I’ve seen Yates play. Ball bouncing off him, constantly gave it away.

We definitely missed the Machine, but it was interesting to see Dougall and Virtue both look more comfortable playing together. Makes me feel that Dougall and Stewart may not be a pair as they do the same job in the same spaces.

Another good game from Turton.

WE missed goal machine today, again

I think if you need a spark, you have to keep Hamilton on. Our strikers didn’t trouble their defenders much. Sometimes it’s not your day but another clean sheet is a positive

A game we should have won but the same failings today that have been there all season. Simms not up to the task of league football, signed on age not ability.
None of the Pool table would hack the championship.

We have sorely missed Gary Madine who, for obvious reasons, contributed so much more than Simms has been able to

No-more-lies - Halifax is legendary for his 4-1 defeat predictions. He’s not entirely serious, though he may disagree. 3-1 was him offering hope

like Halifax, my closing whatsapp comment to my brother was ‘disappointing’

Shame when we put out what looks a very attacking line up. Too many off key performances but no lack of effort.

I enjoyed the match more today. At least we tried attacking today. CJ should have buried that chance and our passing was shocking at times when under no pressure at all. We could have done with swapping Simms for Vassell at HT.

Feels like a wasted opportunity that. The results have gone our way again and we've failed to capitialize on it. I don't understand why Turton is getting the nod over Gabriel, we were getting a lot of joy down the wings and Gabriel would have enhanced the threat. Ellis Simms was completely anonymous in both halves, should have been subbed imo. Cue the abuse in picking out the negatives.

Not the end of the world. We didn’t create enough to win the game, neither did they.

The way we play, home games are more of a challenge. We’ve missed Madine and done well to accumulate the points we have.

Frustrating.

Take our last three fixtures and there's arguably an extra four points absolutely there for the taking which would have left us just outside the playoffs with games in hand.

Defensively very good again (Turton MoM for me) and a massive part of the reason we are on this unbeaten run, but we really lack that attacking fluidity to kill the game off at the moment.

Madine in and a fully up-to-scratch CJ and we'd have buried them today IMO.

Tues becomes a must-win against a very good Burton side at the moment. Need to pull it out of the bag!

Definitely need a win Tuesday but against the form team.
Its time Burton lost though, so let’s hope it’s then!

I quite enjoyed the game but we thought we misfired upfront. Simms was poor today. Just shows how we miss Madine who would have given their defenders something to think about. We are not really firing on all cylinders particularly on the offensive side of our game. We move on now games coming thick and fast.

Not a good result! To be honest I thought Yates and Simms were awful today. Yates I can forgive but Simms looks more and more ineffectual each game. CJ improved a bit and should've stayed on.

So many corners and free kicks around their box but again.. nothing!! I think Turton's done well over the last three games but why no Gabriel? There's not a lot between them but the later is much more dynamic.

Maxwell 5 Turton 6 Ballard 5 Husband 5 Garbutt 5 Kaikai 5 Stewart 5 Dougall 6 Hamilton 5 Yates 4 Simms 4

Virtue 6
Mitchell 6

Interesting to read other people's comments, i thought Kai Kai did ok today and Dougall was the link for everything we did in the second half. Turton had his best game this season i thought.
Yates was due a stinker and even though today he couldn't control a bag of cement, he kept working. We have no alternatives upfront on the bench without Madine, should have been addressed an eternity ago.

Felt like all we really came out of that game with was an injury to Stewart. Hopefully he's OK but that could be the last we see of him for a while.

The ball just wouldn't go into the net and it didn't look like we knew how to change that within the structure and passing shape routines that they have to stick to. But at least it didn't go in up the other end. When you can't score you're always waiting for that sucker punch.
