Blackpool v Fleetwood Official Matchday Thread 13.03.21

Feels like a wasted opportunity that. The results have gone our way again and we've failed to capitialize on it. I don't understand why Turton is getting the nod over Gabriel, we were getting a lot of joy down the wings and Gabriel would have enhanced the threat. Ellis Simms was completely anonymous in both halves, should have been subbed imo. Cue the abuse in picking out the negatives.
Gabriel could have come on in place of CJ. A right footer on the right. Turton had a very solid game and I reckon we need that at the moment.

A game we should have won but the same failings today that have been there all season. Simms not up to the task of league football, signed on age not ability.
None of the Pool table would hack the championship.

Ignoring the fact we had players on the pitch starting the game today who have played in the championship, I don't think anyone is under the illusion that we have a team that would 'hack' it in the Championship at the moment. We were League Two not so long ago and had to put a team together under a salary cap this season

Not sure why you have been banging on about Championship players in this match thread. Half of this lot were League Two at best according to you as well, at the start of the season.

I thought we played some decent football second half.
Yeah it wasn't like wow passing and at times it broke down but we at least were the team on the front foot, we passed and attacked, just the finishing wasn't quite up there today.

Let's face it they had almost nothing second half really.

Given the last games I've been critical of our use of the ball and constantly going long so its an improvement.

Strikers weren't on it today.

If we can carry this improvement on and start putting the ball away then we get excited. But just not enough goals in the side still.

What game were you watching?
Their keeper makes a point blank save
CJ hits the post
Mitchell should have done better
With a bit of luck Blackpool could have been out of sight.
Fleetwood had two good chances all game.
Disappointing yes, shit? Definitely not
I’m shocked you find us good and I can tell you haven’t played football yourself, probably a Sunday league ref or linesman

Quite enjoyed that. We looked better on the ball than in recent games and Dougall seemed to be back in the swing of it by the end. Kaikai should have scored in the first two minutes and you would expect Yates to score that header from inside the 6 yard box. We were much the better side in the second half keeping the ball well and Kaikai found a lot of space moving infield and had a good half. In the end Fleetwood resorted to long balls down the middle trying to feed off knock-ons. Sound familiar?

CJ looks still off the pace and though Mitchell did ok when he came on he lacked that final touch.

Beat Burton an Tuesday and we keep up the 2 points a game ratio which is what we need. They've won about 7 in a row so they'll run out of steam at some point. No-one else around the play-offs is pulling up trees at the moment so we're still ok.

Exactly, mk dons we were awful on the ball but with a mistake and good pressing we got the win.

Today if we convert a couple of those chances we win comfortably.

I'll take building on todays performance rather than sitting back, long ball and hoping for a mistake to nick a game each time.

Let's be honest we don't have enough attacking options on the bench. If they had scored who could come off the bench to really go for it? Barring Vassell's effort I thought we bossed the 2nd half, with 3 glorious chances to score ourselves. It was always going to be tight as you could see neither team wanted to risk too much to push for the win.

I lost count of how many shots they blocked, probably a fair result. Not the best day for pool, I really hope Madine is back on Tuesday.

So because I believe we aren’t playing good football im wrong? Bellend
Have you noticed the other 13 Sunday league linesman that agreed with my post?
Admit it you saw the game wrong today, no need to feel ashamed and lash out we're all seasiders on this board👍🏻

Those 'championship' players are now in league1 for a reason.
Also many of the players were signed early so we could pay them significantly more than when the salary cap came in. Value for money? I don't think so. Mid table league1 squad, definitely.

A lot lot higher than you.

Seriously, would be good to know what level you played at after that comment. Not a dig or anything. Genuinely interested.

I never quite made it - definitely not good enough, but played at a current Premier League team's academy and trained under ex-Premier League coaches. Wouldn't think of lording that over someone - I mean, why would you? So was interested in why you seem to be doing so; you must have played at a very good standard. Ex pro?

As you say no alternatives upfront, for a bloke who's used to working in youth football, NC seems very reluctant to give any of ours a go.

Surprised at some of the comments to be honest. I didn't think a draw was a fair result, we were clearly the better side for almost the whole game, particularly the second half, and we missed the best chance of the game by far. I'm not saying we were great, just that we deserved to win it, unlike the Crewe and Wimbledon games. Just my opinion.

We have players who can cause damage at the top end, but don't have any midfielders who can find them with any accuracy or consistency. Dougall/Stewart are there to win the ball and protect the defence, Virtue can score goals but is hardly likely to start spraying the passes around and provide service for the forwards. So there's that key component that's missing and can't now be found until summer. That said, there's still plenty to play for as not one of the teams chasing 6th spot has found much consistency.

Interesting game Tuesday against a team that is absolutely flying right now.

Agree. Especially the bolded.

Just lacked that goal or 2 we deserved.

I laughed when the commentators said can't split the sides really, we had far more clear chances, especially second half.

All these so called supporters slating our team cannot really understand the game of football, nobody seems to give credit to the opposition. Those codhead defenders made some fantastic last ditch blocks to prevent the mighty Seasiders from scoring . The keeper made two great saves to deny us , one of which was point blank from Simms. So instead of slaughtering our players, look at the bigger picture. UTMP.

A damn sight better performance than Tuesdays. nd todays the first game I have enjoyed watching between these two teams. OK 'pool are not perfect but there were some good performances (Turton) Dougall's still off the pace but improving slowly. The same criticisms still apply though, not enough possession, poor passing and poor crossing though the latter does seem to be improving. They will still need to improve even more to beat an in-form team on Tuesday.

Pompey in extra time in their pizza trophy final. Just what they need!

Same again for Sunderland tomorrow please Tranmere 😊

I thought 0-0 and if we played it again tomorrow I would still think 0-0...we are not a good team to watch unfortunately and the manager will get away with it at whilst we arent losing but if we start losing and playing such poor football he will be in trouble. We need to be more adventurous even if we lose a few by being so.
Wholeheartedly agree.

Its a sad indictment that we think 3 half chances is an improvement on our recent goal threat.

In the cold light of day the fare severed up hasn’t progressed significantly since Grayson, like you say we’re getting away with it at the moment, I’d say largely because the calibre of player has increased by a huge margin.

all I said is I genuinely do not believe we play good football and should be doing a lot better under Critch giving his coaching badges.

I played in the Allsvenskan for 4 and a half years

Thought it was a good game myself ,we created and should of scored at least 2or 3 which on another day would of gone in ,thought we should of got pen in second half when codhead blocked virtues shot,cj should of scored also thought ward or gabs should of come on for cj,thought dougall and virtue also played ok especilly second half, also all niggly fouls from fleetwood ref not strong enough normaly a home win and point away would be a good tally we seem to be doing it the other way anyway roll on tue utmp
