£2.5m for Yates

Jerry wanted to go to Swansea. There were higher bids but he didn’t want to go there so the club acquiesced to his wishes to ensure the sale happened and the player got his wish.

Some may say player power is ridiculous others may call it rewarding his loyalty but either way, it’s a much lower fee than it should have been.
Just can't see this being true.

He had two more years left on his deal and the club had already rejected a 2.5m bid for him in June, I find it unlikely that the club then turned around and allowed him to walk for that amount purely because we wanted to honor his wishes.

2.5m up front with MASSIVE and favorable add-ons might be true, but ultimately no one will have any clue and with the facts on the table I think it's most likely that we maximized the fee received for him.

Poor amount if so considering what he means to us and the length of contract remaining, but still aprox 10x what we paid and we got him for all that time too.

Although we don't know for sure the amount and twitter is full of nonsense.

However SS is seen as a tough negotiator, so seems a bit off.

Is there a player coming the other way?

And you know for a fact that other clubs have made bigger bids?

It really doesn't stack up.
I thought they had? At the end of the day I was resigned he was going, I am glad it is early and it doesn't matter if we get 2 million or 5 million if Sadler isn't going to invest it back into the squad, that's what needs to happen, and he is worth more than 2.5 million in my opinion. If it's that plus Kyle Joseph that would be better business to me.

We will be trying to advertise the price as lower so that we don't get fleeced when we go back in the market.

The bigger shock to me isn’t the supposed price of 2.5m (which is cheap) but the fact people are kicking off he’s going 😂

He was never going to stay in L1 and we have plenty of time to sort replacement(s) before the first league game. At least it hasn’t dragged on ala Bowler sale & we don’t replace.

If Yates goes that's fine but looking at our wingers and striker options, Simon is going to have to re-invest some of that money as we cannot go into the season with Beesley, Lavery, Apter, Dale and CJ as our attacking options. It screams League Two.
We absolutely need 1 (preferably 2 strikers) and a winger for either side, id accept 2 being strong loan’s potentially but we need at least 2 signings in those areas

A) Let’s wait to see what the actual fee is before going mental
B) Swansea would seem like a genuinely really good move for Jerry, best of luck to him if that’s his destination

If we get Kyle Joseph + 2.5M I think it's a reasonable deal. I thought Joseph looked a really good prospect when he made his Wigan debut against us a couple of years ago. We don't know if there is a release clause in Yates's contract but it was inevitable he was going to leave.

It is a mystery to me how every other club seems to get more for their best players than us. Piroe scored a few more than Jerry and he's a bit flashier but an almost 10 million difference?.

Should have been 4m minimum, strange that if the rumors' are true he really wanted to go to Swansea, wonder what all that's about. Decent club obviously but imo they're not much "bigger" than us and there's no way he will be as adored as he was here, better than him going to PNE or Rovers though I suppose.

I am sure the deal will be vastly better than the 2.5 million that’s been mentioned.

It’s a hard one to take but deep down I think we all knew it was coming.

Seems like a strange move going all the way down to South Wales when there is likely to have been interest from clubs up north. Just thankful he did not end up at the nobbers.

Thanks for the memories Jerry. No other player has worked as hard or played for the badge as you.

Think I can speak for every Pool fan when I say thank you and good luck with the future.

A true fan favourite who will always be welcomed back to the club.

Because there were other clubs in for him who offered more and would he turn them down if Blackpool told him they will sell him but not to the lowest bidder.
How do you know?
Nobody knows anything.
As of right now he's still a Blackpool player. No deal has been signed and no money, the amount of which NOBODY but the parties supposedly involved has been divulged.
People are getting their knickers in a twist over people making bullshit statements.

I refer you to the utter lies that came out over the weekend regarding NC going off with Gerrard.
There is absolutely no substance whatsoever in the fee for JY that's being quoted and knowing BFC and the way it is being run right now it will be an undisclosed fee.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility he had a 2.5mil relegation clause in the new contract he signed? It’s not like it’s a radical thing to add in.

If Jerry had been played more often around the opposition box he would of scored a lot more goals and been worth a lot more .
If Jerry was more selfish and didn't feel a need to be closing down 6 players on his own, and he got more service and better quality service, he'd score more goals.

He'll do well at Swansea but I struggle to see it as a huge step up from Blackpool in 12 months time.

The fee is totally irrelevant, what’s important is the quality of players we bring in and the impact they have on the new season.

We could get £15m for Yates and either not spend it or invest it on absolute flops so becomes immaterial.

No idea why some fans feel the need to demand so much information and how the club is and must be run. I’ve much more confidence and trust in Simon running the club than Mickey the window cleaner than once played Sunday league!!!
Blimey, £15m for Yates! That's a good deal. And, I have now seen it on AVFTT so must be true! And perhaps someone should start another thread to say Sadler is a genius for for holding out and achieving it 🤒
As I said on another thread, no one really knows what we will get and the important issue is how it is invested and the quality of any new players.

It's not really a mystery - we continually accept less than market value for our players, therefore we've developed the reputation that we will do that. Hoolahan for £250k for example (yes I know there was a release clause, but that really was scandalous). The only way to change that is to hold firm, even if it means keeping hold of a player.

A simple google shows we already rejected 2.5 million - some fans need to give their heads a wobble - we've lost better players than Jerry in the past and the club still endures. No single player is bigger than the club.

That was exactly the scenario I envisaged.

there's a thread just a bit lower called the price of relegation. Well the price isn't just measured in financial terms, it also means we've lost our biggest asset in Yates. There's some big shoes that will now need filling.

We've already rejected a bid of £2.5m, why would we accept the same bid from a different club?

Some people need to learn to take media reports with a pinch of salt (especially after all the hysterics over the weekend)

Don't really think Mr Sadler could fund next season with only £2.5 million.

He'll need a lot more than that if he wants us to be competitive seeing how he's let £8 million + slip away so easily from last season.

If there IS any truth in this unfortunately we've all been here before, giving away our best assets for next to nothing, it is the lickel old Blackpool way, as we know.

Let's just get thing straight here though, Mr Sadler is interested in money money money and making more money this is what this man is all about.

Let's just look at his portfolio, and we will see that Blackpool FC are way way down on his priority list, and probably rightly so.

But if Jerry does go for so little money (unless a sell on clause has been instigated) I myself could maybe think Mr Sadler maybe well be in pocket in the long term , if you know what I mean 🤬

Gold star for this one.
I bet you believe UFOs exist don't you?

‘We sold a player cheaply once 15 years ago under different ownership so we must bee CeLliNg im ChEEplee’

Chronic brain rot

It's annoying that we probably won't learn the fee received. If we knew we got a decent amount it would soften the blow- and I don't mean 2.5m.

I think it is decent money, he's a good lad and a great worker but he don't score many.

I am begrudgingly adding a run to your score Joe.

This all stems from some shit on twatter most likely and unless one or both clubs disclose the fee then no one will have a clue what it is.

I despair at the amount people who take the bait with these shit posts and some I know are intelligent people.

GET A GRIP FFS.......

This is what they said back then 🤔
So SS is going to take at least a £1.5m hit because Jerry boy wants to go to Wales.
Get real folks, its rubbish, it won't have happened.
Anybody on Twitter etc who has stated a transfer fee are completely in LaLa land. Apologies to LaLa ;)

I felt sorry for Jerry Yates last season because we had him defending too much. Whenever we got an attack going, he used to have to 'bust a gut' charging forward from our penalty area and it's no wonder he didn't get more goals. He came off the pitch absolutely knackered. When defending, we should've had Jerry and CJ around the halfway line, which tie-up at least three of the opposition, then use his speed and skill going forward hunting for goals.
