£40 million for two years

Fulham boss Marco Silva reportedly offered that by Saudi club Al-Ahli. If true, he surely can’t turn that down, it’s generational money. I don’t think we can dismiss this trend now, the money is massive and younger players will no doubt start to be interested in the not too distant future.

What's insane is that there making up the amounts as the go along they'd have probably got him for half that amount same as Henderson at 700k a week.

Tangy you've summed it up in a sentence, when I waffle on for paragraphs.

Of course it's not for Henderson or Silva or anyone else to sort out the financial problems of the lower leagues. But just think of the fund that could be quickly built up by taking 1% of weekly wages that are over £50k. And I'm being deliberately low key with that, to make the point.

The EFL could then be responsible (an oxymoron if ever there was one) for judging how much a struggling club is at fault, and awarding financial support accordingly. To be clear I'm not talking about offering it to clubs who just spend beyond their means, so most of the Championship therefore. This would be for those who can keep the themselves afloat by the sale of a player or cup receipts.

Sadly of course, there's only me thinks like that.

A Harlem Globetrotter scenario of aging pros cashing in - and some younger ones.
Good luck to them.
Will the games mean anything - and will the players really care?
TV coverage and money? - I doubt I'd watch it.
Let them go - a pointless showcase from absurd oil profits.
House of cards that will tumble eventually.

Let them do what they are going to do. It has nothing to do with what we all cherish about football.

It'll be a depressing but ultimately massive financially rewarding experience that will have zero credibility or legacy.

A certain type of person will accept that, whether they are close to the end of their careers or otherwise.

Good luck to them.

If this isn't money laundering in plain sight I don't know what is. No idea how it all works of course but capitalism it isn't. Pure grift.

Footballers follow the money. We know that many mercenary players, particularly Eastern Europeans, Africans and South Americans, are in the Premier League because the tv money allows EPL clubs to offer huge wages. Those same players will follow the dollar and be off to China and the Middle East once the offers flood in.

The numbers being mentioned in the Saudi league are obscene, as for Silva he should grab it, Fulham will pot him as soon as they hit a bad run in the Prem.

Basically they are gonna buy Mbappe and pay around $1 billion for one year (transfer fee&wages) and then he will join Madrid for free.

Looking forward to seeing the mental gymnastics that the "they are worth what someone will pay" crew will put themselves through for this.

No I think a lot of people will agree with you. The billions the clubs have had from Sky/BT over the years no clubs should go bust. And we should have the best pitches/facilities for grass roots in every town but we don’t.
