This is admittedly tough but just to counter the this evenings negativity I'll try.
1. I was happy with the team selection. If I was being picky I'd have swapped Kemp for Garbutt and put Hubby at LB.
2. We set off like a house on fire and were excellent for the first 30 mins.
3. We learned from Tuesday mistake and cleared from the keepers save from the penalty.
4. We played 4-4-2 which suits us better albeit with a hint of 4-3-3.
5. I still believe we are only 2 players short of being a top 6 side (striker (DJ style) and a tricky right footed winger with an eye for goal.

Can’t argue with that Insy.

We have gone back to where we are great passing and moving apart from final third where it matters.
Pity we didn't have Grettarsen in defence because his positional sense and tackling could have probably prevented their goals

We need a Charlie Adam type midfielder too. We are really missing CJ too.

Apart from our lack of finishing in open play, I am frustrated that dead ball situations are woeful.
The players all seem confident on the ball though and our passing is generally good. I think we will start taking teams apart if we start converting chances

I think this is spot on...Especially Hubby at LB and Garbutt LW.

The striker issue is simple. The current incumbents aren't prolific enough and not backed up by goalscoring mid-fielders or for that matter CBs.
The CBs as defenders is a tough one. Ballard was certainly partly at fault for Rover's first goal, but his mistake was along way out, and you can't expect a player to go through 90 mins without making a mistake.
Eky was probably partly culpable for the 2nd goal
Gretarrson is a natural LCB whereas Ballard isn't.
It's a conundrum similar to the FBs one.
I've always liked square pegs in square holes so the only way to fit all three in is with a back 3.
If I was Critch I'd certainly be looking at that option.

Keeper played well
We created more chances
Madine was tidy in his target man work feeding the attacking midfielders and Yates (who fluffed their lines)
We know where we need to recruit in Jan

tough to find 5 I agree

True but it doesn't add up to much. We have a tricky right footed winger with an eye for goal. We need to get him fit asap

I’m not one for blaming individual players, and I think Ballard slipped rather than cocked up, but I do agree that Grettarsson, may have been in a position to at least get some sort of block for their second , I also like the idea of a back 3.

Been saying it for weeks; Pool should play a back 3 of Marvin, Ballard and Viking. Any five you like in midfield as long as Garbutt is one of them, and a better option than Baz to bring on up front. That late miss was so bad that he might consider giving up his day job. No composure whatsoever.

Are passing is the best in this league and I will go as far as saying its championship quality, but the final third is one of the worst in the division. It's now the January transfer and there is no better time than to rectify this problem now.

Hard to argue with most of that but for me we still need an upgrade in centre mid...someone who can pick a pass and interlink the players. I still think we are a few players short and would like a mobile centre forward who can actually score goals. We also need a decent back up keeper though I am sure you will fight Sims corner. We are crying out for a 3 at the back formation and two good attacking wing backs. Why we havent tried that yet God only knows...it seems so obvious to me.

Five positive

1 another man of the match performance from Sam Walker...sign him up please
2 Ward was very sharp first half and has been very unlucky to lose his place
3 Gary Madine scored
4 we dominated for 30 mins
5 we dont have to play at Bristol Rovers or Shrewsbury again this season and thats our usual xmas disaster out of the way

TTP.
You should change your name to "3 at the back".
We do need another midfielder of the type you describe, left/mid/centre who cares?
Obviously a striker who strikes.
Another keeper isn't necessary. Just bring Walker back if Maxwell gets injured.

11 negatives

1 SUBS again poorly thought out and 3 at a time after 70 mins is unlikely to work
2 The bench looked a whole lot weaker than it has recently
3 No info as to why Iceman and Kai Kai were not in the squad..baffling and we could have done with KK off the bench
4 Although he scored Madine wasnt very good today and Yates was anonymous. When the ball is played in Jerry is nowhere to be seen and he never seems to get in any dangerous positions. The front 2 dont get much service but they were poor today.
5 The support play of Kemp and Anderson didnt really work today and that leaves us short of attacking options and service.
6 We are definitely going to miss CJ very badly and the prognosis isnt great
7 There really is no plan B at all and that was glaringly obvious today
8 even the normally reliable Marv and Ballard had off days and Garbutt and Turton mainly failed on distribution
9 I think Dougall huffed and puffed but he is still not quite as effective as he was earlier in the season (I do prefer him with Ward at the moment though and would rather free the pair of them up with a back 3 of Marv Ballard and Viking
10 Still nowhere near enough actual shots on target...this season the opposing goalkeepers have had an easy ride and little to do
11 We wasted our own time way too often today and if you didnt know better you would have thought the last two subs were to waste time...also Garbutt throwing the ball out in the first half...we need more urgency if we are behind and the tempo must be lifted

Its not all doom and gloom and given time we can iron out these problems...please try the big 3 at the back though and give it a real shot...I think it would turn our season.

TTP.
On Gretarsson Critch said he wants players on the bench that can offer different options. The Iceman is just a CB.
The stats are actually very positive, 21 shots, 5 on target, 17 chances created, 7 blocked shots.
Of course we all know the saying "lies, damn less and statistics". The only one that counts is goals scored.
Madine isn't a goal machine, Yates definitely didn't buzz today and Anderson was justfiably todays scapegoat.
The defence isn't the problem even though they made mistakes.
Dougall is a terrier but his passing has become a bit careless. I would probably have given Ward MOM.
The bench didn't offer alot and the substitutions were too late anyway. Personally I'd have taken Anderson off at HT for Woodburn.

For me motm was between Ward and Walker and I would just favour the keeper

I had a feeling the Iceman had gone to Iceland for xmas...if not it is baffling that he hasnt even been considered...he has been pretty good and at least deserves a slot on the bench

Have we played them twice already?

2 winnable matches given league positions and form - had we taken 6 points we’d be 4th

we have no chance of catching the leading 6 with defeats like this

don’t be surprised if West Brom sort out our indifference

Said on another thread that imo our bench offered nothing that would have benefitted a change. I've yet to see anything from Woodburn or Lubala that convinces me they add or bring something to the team. Kaikai can but he wasn't involved. I think we're more likely to get more creativity or a goal out of Yates,Ward and Anderson[who was appalling] than the players who replaced them.

He's our most valuable player and our right winger. What would we do with a tricky right-footed winger?

Play him on the left of course because thats what we do.

We take too many passes and attack to deep it left BR time to get back and have a line of defenders.
There was no space to shoot and nearly every time we did it was easily blocked.
